Made five appearances without scoring a goal according to wiki. I probably saw most of them, but can only just about recall his name. Ended his career at Whitehawk and is now a market trader in east London apparantly.

Never given a proper chance in the first team. His form in the reserves warranted better.

Hotshot in the reserves. Quite short if I remember rightly? Expected him to get more first team opportunities with his goalscoring record. Never happened and surprised when he left us.

Saw him score shed loads for the reserves, but when he played for the first team he was way out of his depth and made Lampty look like a giant. So we recycled the song to Wood, Wood, Wood, Wood, Woody score a little goal for me.
Oh he hadn't scored a goal since Southend, then he got one at City, so Wood, etc. Turned out Paul Wood was only marginally more prolific.

Well. Yes. He lodged with me from the age of 14 when he got one day a week off school and this developed more or less full time from the age of 15 until he left. Part of the best youth team we had with players like Trevor Wood (Walsall, Port Vale and Northern Ireland), Danny Carter (Orient captain) and Steve Palmer (Ipswich), all who made a name for themselves in the game, who won the London Youth Cup. Palmer went to uni and Lloyd blanked him when he returned qualified - one of the biggest losses our club ever suffered.
Gippy’s family were right eastenders and his dad Bill had a fruit and veg stall at Walthamstow Station and always kept us well supplied. His dad was a great bloke and, how should I put it, well connected.
Gippy, who was a West Ham fan, modelled himself on Tony Cottee, and as said above, scored plenty in the youth team and reserves. He never saw his job as tracking back. Like Ian Muir, he was given little chance in the first team, and I think the club was downsizing at the time and not prepared to invest in developing these players further.
