You know Southgate will stay loyal to Phillips, just as he has stayed loyal to Maguire and Henderson.
It will be fascinating to see his next move. There's no way Leeds will be able to afford his £150K a week wages, and even if they could there's a risk he may never recover his old form. I fancy he'll take the Saudi shilling.

This has always been my view of Phillips. Set him up as a quarterback in a Bielsa style team and he's golden. Anything else, he struggles. I read today that West Ham don't want him permanently and that City will be trying to offload him in the summer. This guy sums up the quandary of him as a signing.
I do wonder though... Could he be a player who'd be undervalued because of time out and current form? Would he consider salvaging his reputation and international career to be more important than maintaining his wage level? Could we use a player with his attributes, sitting in front of Dunk as a second player who could rake balls out to the wingers? Did Pep not use him because he couldn't master the short game and playing on the half turn? If rejuvenated, could he provide the defensive cover that's been missing since Caicedo went? Is his bolt shot after injury problems? I know none of the answers - Just thought him an interesting proposition. The news story I read suggested City are hoping to recoup about £30m, so it's probably a pointless question anyway, as Tony will certainly take that sort of punt on a player who costs him little or nothing, but hasn't ever spent serious money on one.
Same reasons why we should not want him, then.

I'm not a huge fan of his, but I could see the value of having a player with that line in raking diagonals in this side
I don't think he'll continue to play s*** for ever, like Barclay, someone will get a tune out of him. It's just with the high wages and fee / with that level of risk and limited selling on potential, I think we should leave the usual suspects to slug it out
