Well that was pretty unwelcoming of them. Why the f**k can’t people mind their own business and let people make their own decisions on what and when they want the world to know.

It’s always been the case that human nature being what it is, that in the absence of an explanation for any given event, people will speculate and fill the gaps in knowledge with that speculation. We just have the means now to make that speculation more widely seen via the internet, rather than gossiping in our little communities.

I was off work for many months because I was in hospital for a health issue. My manager even said I didn’t need to tell people why I was off but the truth is usually much more mundane than the wild speculation that comes with a disappearance for months. I did tell them from the start why I was off and things were largely quiet.

All this is going to be much worse when you are a public figure such as a princess. I think the palace would have done better at the start being vague but basically honest about why she was missing, it would have stopped the speculation before it started.

I’m no fan of the Royal family but I am very sorry to hear how ill she is, and I do hope that she is able to make a full recovery. It’s a horrible disease.

Worthing
I disagree with you most profoundly.

The relationship between the royals the people and the media is the same as it ever was. Except that since the Lady Diana era the media has become much more intrusive. Social media is another beast. And remember your laptop and phone are only 3 clicks away from illegal porn. So, perspective and judgement are needed.

None of them ever had normal family life. Let alone under the media glare.

The game is not up. The taxpayer does not own what they represent, and certainly does not own not the humans that populate the firm.

Transparency and accountability does not extend to having to tell the country you have cancer. That is not part of any contract.

Media intrusion is more illegal now that it ever was. Internet speculation is however for anyone to sell.

Things change, but in many repects they stay the same.

Today's press release was an elegant 'f*** you, and f*** off' from someone I had never heard speak before and who has been absurdly roughed up over perfectly reasonable photoshopping.

Anyway, I'm off to pick up my new pet that I bought on a Russian version of Ebay this afternoon. Can't wait to take him out for a flight.

Soooo excited

You are clearly a royalist who does not like to confront the truth about the bigger picture and their role in a 21st century modern democracy with increasing widening wealth inequality, access to healthcare and opportunity.
You may have a point ( personally I’m not a great Royalist but they are slimmed down significantly and imo play a very significant role in charity and civil functions of the State) but is a thread expressing sorrow about the heir to the throne’s wife having chemotherapy for cancer an appropriate opportunity to forward an argument for the abolition of the Monarchy? I think not.

Stuff and nonsense, big f'ing deal and made no difference to absolutely anything in anybodys personal lives, just a poxy picture, goodness sake.

Unfortunately not so, it was sent to a press agency who have clear rules regarding manipulation. Anything sent from wherever would have been rejected like that. To me it looked it had put through an AI clean up.

Does it matter ? Yes very much to the agency I'm afraid, they have a business and reputation to uphold.

If it had been released personally to the public I wouldn't care less, but it wasn't.

This person has now posted more royal speculation and also deleted almost all references to the Albion from their Twitter. Still following Joe Marler though.
What a disturbing series of tweets from that account. Regardless of how much truth there are in them, why on EARTH would you think posting that stuff is a good or positive move?

She asked for privacy and that berk seemingly doesn't give a shit (again, leaving aside whether the stories are true or not true).

I’ve just had a look, and it’s changed its story three times already. It’s awful speculation.

The Palace were vague but basically honest about her condition from the start. They said she was having a major operation and would be out of action for months, while was both 100% correct and also vague.

The difficulty comes after the cancer was diagnosed. Now, I presume it isn't expected that she would go straight from the doctor to the press office and announce the cancer, and let her children pick it up off social media. Even the most ardent critic would expect her to tell the children first.

How soon should that have been? It's been a month. How long would have been too long?
