Is this the potentially staged terrorist attack people were warning about?

Or are the NATO manoeuvres in Romania a risk too far? Maybe they aren't ready for a conflict with NATO. Putin hinted as much in his speech.

My money is on Maskirovka v2.0 - an attempt to avert the west re-arming, while giving Russia time to re-arm and come back stronger.
Putin has borne a grudge for decades. He isn't suddenly going to change his mind because of a few drones or oil refineries. Or 450,000 dead Russians.

And there are enough recent reports on the amount of re-arming that Russia has been undertaking, with their own photo release of Shoigu inspecting weapons factories with upgraded (payload and quantity) bomb production etc...and I am sure they are not going to stop.

Would seem quite possible given past behaviour from them...Russia is good at bombing theatres (I'm remembering the one in Mariupol with all the citizens and kids inside).

Steve Rosenberg on the BBC says some people are still inside the building. The attack is still in progress.

I don't think there is any indication as to who or what group is responsible.

One point - if this is the terrorist attack that the US warned about a few days ago, the Russian FSB etc were unable to prevent it, or ignored the warnings.

I haven't kept on top of the Ukraine war news in a while. Are people actually saying there's compelling evidence that Russia is carrying out a state-sponsored terrorist attack...on its own people?

There were warnings last week from the British and American intelligence agencies that there was going to be a terrorist attack in Moscow soon, and Putin has done this same thing on at least two other occasions to tighten his grip.

I’m not saying it definitely is a fake attack, I’m just saying Russia doesn’t get the benefit of the doubt.

Channel 4 News - 40 people reported dead. No indication that Ukraine was involved. Gunmen had beards and had the appearance of being from the Caucasus or central Asia.

Agreed. News reports now saying Russian people saying the attackers looked like Caucuses heritage.

Same playback imho. It will be framed as Ukrainians just as mass mobilisation called.

Some reports of Russians saying they looked Chechen heritage, but can of course be framed as working for Ukraine.

Awaiting the theatre presentation from Russian state media...
