Joke shops selling itching powder, fake dog turds and stink bombs. I used to crush those glass stink bombs containing some sort of toxic liquid in appropriate places, the lift in Woolworths, London Road being one.

I had a chemistry set when still at primary school so zero knowledge of chemicals. It came complete with a bunsen burner which I connected to a gas wand on our cooker. I used to mix all sorts of powder and granules together and boil them. Once when my mum washed the shirt I had been wearing when experimenting it came out of the washing machine completely full of holes.

I guess fishing is still popular but do kids still do it? I used to fish a lot off the breakwaters in Newhaven. Darkie Knight for my equipment, and usually the west side breakwater for the actual fishing. Mackeral were very easy to catch in the summer.
I had a wank sock. It ended up like a small concrete lintel.
State schools had football and cricket teams . Games against other teams on Saturday morning with away games by coach. So many teachers whatever subject they taught if they had an interest they would coach at nets and attend school matches. No question of getting overtime pay they did it because they wanted to help out and get involved.
