It’s a difficult decision now - do we give him a run of games to get fully match fit again in the hope his quality will come with time and he can help fire us into Europe again? Or - do we say it’s now better to give our own players time and experience on the pitch in preparation for next season?

I'm going to buck the trend and say that I thought that was his best performance for us last night. It didn't feel like the team were carrying him as has been the case previously or that he was getting in the way and disrupting the flow of our attacks. Tactically, positionally he was better.
Yes, he lacks a bit of aggression/work rate and is let down by technique at times but I saw more than I've seen so far and he does do things which no one else does - both good and bad.
The challenge is that he needs a lot of sustained coaching and games at a high level and he's not yet at the level we need. He needs another season with us and then I think we'd really see that there is a game-changing player in there. If we could make the transfer permanent on lower wages, I'd persevere, I just don't think it's likely.

Wouldn't have said it was his best performance but agree with much of the sentiment of this. There is a player in there that needs coaxing/coaching out, its just whether we have the patience to do it given the astronomical wages. Reminds me a bit of when Enciso & Buonanotte first appeared, flashes of skill but looks lightweight. With Mitoma looking likely to depart it might be wise to persevere if we can strike a deal that works.

If he wasn't a loan signing, and hadn't had the Barcelona background, I think we'd be happy with the contribution that a 21-year-old had made, with potential for improvement.
