White 'made himself unavailable' - Southgate

England manager Gareth Southgate says he has "no issue" with Ben White after the Arsenal defender made himself unavailable for selection for this month's upcoming friendlies.

Now, I’m not a huge fan of Gareth - a post modern anti Alan Bennet ‘nice’ none northern cliche of a PE teacher…

But I find this all rather odd.

To play for your country is a honour, so suck it up and play for the shirt.

To compound things you’ve got Gareth saying he’s not sure why ?!? Seriously, wtf? Ask the perma-tanned fashion poodle !

I wish people would speak plainly, the modern world is a minefield of people tripping over themselves to be as inoffensive as possible… and that right there is why we’ll never win anything with Gareth at the helm.

Can understand it.

If, as widely publicized, White is not that fussed about football and it is really just a job to him, from his point of view why would he bother playing England and potentially harm his club career/day job with an injury? Plus, it's a lot of travel and hassle playing for England that he doesn't need if he's just not that into it.

Absolute quality player though, definitely England's loss.

Waistcoat flat out lied when affecting bemusement as to why anyone would have a problem with his beloved Henderson going to Saudi. I've don't doubt he'd do the same over White. He seems to have happily embraced sophistry in the last year or two

Clearly, really quite sad.

I’d have given everything to represent my country, with pride and with one eye of getting as many caps as possible… not some jingoistic nonsense, but being the best at my sport.

The fact that White got Edu to do his dirty work makes it even worse, frankly the behaviour of someone who’s a bit of a knob head.

I wonder if this is more of an England problem than a Ben White one. I'd be annoyed if I was playing like him and seeing Henderson and Maguire around the team. Curious to see if he features in the future under a new manager and backroom staff.

He was a great professional for us. Even with the move to Arsenal / Leeds etc. Arteta is intense and also seems to love him.

It's a shame, as you'd definitely want him in the squad with his versatility and current form.

He’s signed a new contract with Arsenal today until 2028.

I don’t know about that……I’m kinda 50/50…….will i lose any sleep about it..nope….have i bothered to look at these rumours that GB mentioned nope…and won’t but am i puzzled yes…..sometimes people withdraw from a squad due to personal reasons ..which should be respected……and i thought that might be the case last time, but i don’t know for sure….given his profile its an obvious question to ask…whether he wants to answer it then yes its up to him.

Now moving on to more important things and tonight….….Albion!

I've heard the same rumour that he doesn't enjoy football (though he is a quality player).
The second rumour was when he was in the squad last time he told Southgate play me or I go home.
I get it that it must be weird when your a better player than other players but just hang in there and will get your chance to picked all the time.

I think it would be fair to say Sky have made their mind up and think they are being clever by hinting at it in the interview I saw today. It was pretty unfunny.
