That diversion is laughable.
Thankfully we're down in Sussex the following weekend.
We'd go around the M25 the other way if the diversion affected us.

I’m heading north that weekend. Will probably risk the A27 west and then go via the M3 at Southampton, and then A34. My fear is that the more obvious alternative routes will quickly become gridlocked.

Sussex Cricket Academy have got to be at Loughborough Uni first thing Saturday morning, & I was just going to leave very early AM with my lad - but now leaving Friday lunchtime and booked a Travelodge up there for the Friday night, instead of contending with diversions and / or the longer way round through the tunnel first thing Sat. Will go the Bridge way back in the evening though.
A fun trip for all the parents..... 😏

If going that way, always best to check route first

I'll be driving back from Cheltenham (to Crowborough) on Saturday morning. If the diversion is that bonkers do people reckon I'll be better off staying on the M4 and going clockwise round to the Dartford crossing?

Or down the A34/M3 to the A27 and along?

Surely you use the M40 don't you? If so go clockwise on M25

Did anyone venture onto the south western sector of the M25 this weekend? I didnt, but checked journey times on my usual BN1 to HA4 route and they were only about 10 minutes longer, albeit going more as the crow flies ie inside the M25.

We came back from Loughborough that way on Saturday evening. Sat Nav said it was still the quickest route...and it was.
Quick diversion from J11 through Weybridge and Cobham, and then the M25 was like this the rest of the way....

As it went so well this weekend (30 minute delays, apparently), I fully expect people to ignore the next closure (not sure when it is) and it to be carnage. Or, will everyone think this and it be ok again?

My journey back from Cheltenham was fine. My sat nav sent me the same way I would have gone anyway, M4, cut through Bracknell but instead of going back up the M3 to the M25 it sent me around Woking and then up the A3 and similar to @Fignon's Ponytail post above the M25 was empty. It did add about 20 minutes on but to be fair 15 minutes of that was queueing on the A3 to get on to the M25.
