There should be a standard rule for every £1m over FFP limits in the 3 year period, then 1 point is deducted. Then everyone would know where they stood. Simples.
I'm sure I read that they (PL clubs) voted on this but didn't get the required majority.

Cash flows are irrelevant when calculating player sale profits.
Cheers for clarification.
So the whole £100 million boon has now effectively expired.
I don't suppose they have sockboy2 ready to bail them out.

Acknowledging that there is a vast amount of guesswork in these figures, but recall that Uncle Tone apparently paid a 20% bonus to all staff at the end of last season for achieving Europa qualification - without that our wage bill would be 17th.
If the figures are to be believed, they are pre bonuses. A 20% bonus would mean a jump from 14th to 11th.

And if we didn’t have goal bonuses etc it’d be even less. But it wasn’t

But you said ...

This model is uncompetitive and almost locks everybody into their current status.

Now I don't think it does. It prevents billionaires blowing everyone away. Had there been no PSR rule in place, who knows, we may have seen Newcastle in for Mbappe, Bellingham etc. PIF has the money. As it is, they have to exercise some restraint and in practice develop some players

This.

P&S and FFP are vital to the Albion. Without it petro states, vast hedge funds and mates of warmongering dictators would buy up the rest of the PL clubs resisting. TB isn’t selling, we’d be outgunned as wages spiral, players wouldn’t hang around.

Or for every £1m over FFP limits in the 3 year period, then 1 league position is dropped.

UEFA’s FFP was fully implemented 9 years ago.

In the period since Abu Dhabi, Leipzig and PSG have somehow ascended to the top of European football. UEFA coefficient ranked 1, 4 and 7. Newcastle were going nowhere fast, then CL football for the first time in 20 years, within months of Saudi Arabia buying them. Villa were shit for years including a recent relegation, now in the top 5.

Where’s the closed shop? They all found means around the rules.

A wild-west would mean German clubs bar Bayern would never compete again, the Albion would fade down the order of things.

I don’t think Newcastle have found ways around the rules, have they ? As you pointed out in post 305 they have been prevented from over spending by FFP rules. What they have done is increased spending (by a lot less than they could afford without FFP) and hired a very good manager. How have Villa got around the rules ? I think I’m agreeing with you btw. The main voices in favour of a no FFP Wild West are players and associated hangers on.

You may not have noticed but Villa and Newcastle are both backed by billionaires. The Grealish transfer might have held off any issue with Villa and Newcastle have been reasonably prudent, but I think both might find themselves in trouble down the line like Everton did and Chelsea probably will.

We are the exception, owing to Uncle Tony's genius. Our wage bill is in the bottom 4 in the league I think.
Lucky for us a billionaire has chucked over £300m into our club

I meant to say with (NUFC] and around the rules (Abu Dhabi and PSG).

But early days. NUFC may reap commercial income from the Middle East in excess of true arm‘s length market value of such contracts …. UEFA have explicit laws within FFP covering that.

Can someone put me right here. At the moment I feel like there is an elephant in the room in the shape of Man City. How can the premier league be dishing out points dedications etc while City are still avoiding their investigations etc.

One rule for the elite?

No, more chance of a successful prosecution of Everton and Forest because they have many fewer charges leveled against them. Cases against other clubs will proceed when ready.

Citeh won’t be avoiding anything - they are charged with something like 115 breaches of FFP regulations and could face a rather hefty number of points deduction- Everton were only charged with 1 and ended up (so far) with 6 - there is another charge ongoing for 2023 which could result in another 10->6 point reduction.

The trial with Citeh is expected to be in late Autumn - it’s just taking longer than other Clubs because of the number of breaches, the complexity of record-keep/accounting and the fact they were refusing to cooperate willingly cf to eg Everton.

If Pep suddenly follows Klopp out the EPL door in the summer, you can be sure he’s had an insight into how much shite will be hitting the fan in the Autumn 🤔

Is it wrong to want the PL to be a proper competition where 20 teams have a reasonable chance to do well and that can only be achieved by levelling the amount of money spent.
It kind of is by virtue of the fact English football has never been home to an 'everyone gets a prize' hierarchy.

Sure previously it hadn't been a home to sports washing dictatorships either.
But hindsight suggests that's was always going to be the end result over 'cheer up Sheffield Utd you might win it, next season'.
