It wasn't a mistimed tackle at all. Holgate timed it perfectly, and intended to take Mitoma out of the game by injuring him.

The response from Wilder still isn't nearly enough to limit the damage from this.
Absolutely right. If the tackle had been mistimed then contact would have been made with Mitomas foot/ankle etc somewhere in the area of the ball, not two fecking feet off the ground! Wilder clearly instructed his team to get physical from the off and then doubled down with twatty post match comments. Classless.

Gets worse.

Sheffield United captain Anel Ahmedhodzic on Mason Holgate's dismissal:
"The red card killed the game, killed our plan and killed everything we worked for.

"If you ask my opinion I don't think it is a red card. I don't want to say more.

"From what I saw on the pitch I don't think it was [a red card]. Maybe the replay seems harsher than it is.

"But from my view on the pitch I thought it was a fair tackle."
The bloke must be thick as mince.

"It's a mis-timed tackle. You know, whether it's too powerful as people talk about or however they want to dress it up. The game's moved on - I get it. But it certainly gave.... yellow card straight away, I think he pulled out, but with VAR it gives them the opportunity of upgrading it - and obviously they did that."

Mis-timed?

Dressed up as "too powerful"?

Blimey.

What a miserable, deluded, clueless old wanker.

Will raise a glass when they f*** off back to whence they came (again). That club is an embarrassment to the league.

Wow, that is impressive delusion. You can see how much force is in the tackle from how far Mitoma’s knee rocks to one side, and it’s a full on studs up connection, not just a glance. If to him that’s not a red card then what is?! It’s one where if one of your own players does that you just go yeah fair enough red card is deserved. He’s making himself look a tit by blaming VAR or how the game has changed.

A manager trying to make any sort of defence there is never allowed to criticise a lack of punishment to an opponent ever again.
A manager making and defence of a challenge like that should never be managing a football team ever again.

Aren't all fouls mistimed tackles?
Nope. Some are cynical attempts to stop a counter attack with no intent or possibility of winning a ball. Some of rash acts of someone seeking vengeance for a perceived or actual injustice. Some are people being unable to move out of the way when an opponent runs back and forth across their path. Some are players hanging a leg out to make contact before throwing themselves to the ground.
