Not an easy question to answer as there have been loads back in the day as there were fewer of us and lack of cctv.
It started off for me pompey away mid 80s
As only Abt 16,was eating a wimpy in there shitehole town centre.Came out of wimpy there was only 4 of us and they surrounded us and we took a bit of a pasting.Fkin cowardly muppets and hated pompey ever since. A lot of northern teams mainly, Barnsley away got ambushed walking up that hill after the games.

Probably , the Millwall away play off match . I had been working at a construction site along the Old Kent road during the day and killed time in a pub nearby .
During a visit to the gents a geezer using a adjacent urinal said to me " you are from Brighton aren't you " . In a state of panic I actually told the truth and said " no Worthing " , zipped up and made a calm exit .

Total chaos, to my young eyes, and I could see that my dad was visibly concerned for our/my safety.

Birmingham City, late 80s or early 90s, we won 1-0. I was about 18 years old and totally wet behind the ears. Went with one mate and neither of us had colours on but on the walk back to New St another lad joined us in a Brighton shirt. All ok until we got outside McDonalds near New St and there was a big mob of them. They clocked matey's shirt and moved in, me and my mate made the mistake of hesitating. The two of us without colours were chased all the way through the Pallasades but the lad in colours got a couple of slaps before a Birmingham fan got off a bus and told them to leave him and stop being so cowardly 'attacking a scarfer on his own'. Reckon that's the fastest 100 meters I've ever ran, anyone who's seen me play football wouldn't have believed it.

In hindsight the fact that a lot of our lads jumped in cabs to the station should have been a warning :lolol:

Late 60s at Craven Cottage watching Fulham vs Leeds (Albion didn't have a home game that Saturday, so went to London to watch a 1st Div game with a mate). Bunch of Leeds guys came running up to us and screamed if you are Leeds supporters you're coming with us, if Fulham we'll beat you up, our response that we were Brighton supporters left them puzzled so we got left alone....

Didn't go to any away games until the mid 90s, so don't have much experience of genuinely hairy situations. Chesterfield in 2000 was a bit lively to and from the ground, but there was such a big away following (must've been 2000+) that I felt pretty safe in numbers.

1975 Spurs v Villa.

Just turned 15 and went to WHL with a couple of older mates. Spent the whole afternoon trying to keep out of trouble as fights broke out all around us. Eventually got back to one of those little bars at Victoria and were having a pint congratulating ourselves for avoiding trouble, when a crowd of United supporters came in looking for 'cockney bastards'. We corrected them that we were, in fact, from Brighton :lolol:

All hell broke lose, the three of us ended up in A&E and I still have a scar on my lower back. What doesn't kill you makes you stronger :thumbsup:

Oxford away late 80s. After the game we dodged the escort by nipping up an alley that took us to in front of the Brighton fans and police. Feeling pleased with ourselves lasted until we passed the smashed up pub and police arresting and detaining Oxford skinheads trying to confront the bulk of BHA fans. As we got near the station we were chased by a group of theirs and just made it to the platform before suffering any damage. Similar stories at Gillingham, Portsmouth, Leeds, Southend and a few others but Oxford was the closest we came to a hiding.

Cardiff in the old days was ropey as anything.

Felt quite safe on our last visit, don't know if it's the new ground effect or all their loons getting older. Mind you, I was with my Cardiff supporting, ex Soul Crew mate (and his BHA fan Mrs and lots of other Albion). The closest it got to hairy was when he took us into Kiwis and then started singing Brighton songs in his best Caerphilly accent, the muppet :lolol:

Maine road c 79. Half a dozen of us in a Manc pub c 7pm when loads of city fans barged in looking for trouble. We weren’t wrong and we thought we were dead meat but they turned out to be ever so friendly as they were looking for united fans and had no interest in Brighton. Never been so pleased to be part of (as we were then) a small irrelevant fan base!😂

Remember when Oxford first came down to us. Up to then we had assumed they would all be university students! We were wrong, never seen so many abandoned DMs!
