My memory of the 'replay' at Stamford Bridge was more of an excellent pub we went to first. Don't remember the game much.
First memory of Selhurst is 70's and going by double decker bus. Palace fans waiting on the bus to ambush us post match. Then held up as police searched every coach after a Palace fan was attacked.

Well I’ve been to loads most of them in the 70s and 80s

The first was August 1974, first game of the season and at the Goldstone. We won 1-0 thanks to Spider Mellor. Palace brought a big mob down for that game and it kicked off everywhere. I still reckon that was the day the rivalry started.

I took Mrs.Punal to her first ever football match when we played Palace at Selhurst Park (September 75). We won 1-0 scoring in the first minute but missed it as we were stuck in traffic trying to get to their dump. She was hooked from then on.

Probably the best, for everything, February 1976 at the Goldstone. Huge crowd of 33,500+ , electric atmosphere and very hostile. This was THE match that really defined the loathing between us. We won 2-0 under the lights. Absolutely unforgettable experience.

The Challis of Palace replay at Stamford Bridge. You all know the story.

That horrible game at Selhurst Park when Henry Hughton tried to amputate Gerry Ryan’s leg.

St.Patrick’s Day massacre with Spanish Dave’s wonder free kick. :albion2:

I was in the middle of that with Mrs.P. A bit like being in the eye of the storm - total carnage all around and us in the centre enjoying tea and buttered scones, so to speak!

Fond memories of the late 70’s and early 80’s.
No mobiles. All by word of mouth.

Teddy Maybanks finest hour in the 0-0 on a frozen goldstone pitch.

Losing 3-1 at their place thanks to vince hilaire with scores of ours being led round the pitch from the homesdale.

Friendly at Selhurst 1981 where things went unsurprisingly wayward.

As mentioned in a previous post meets at the Burrell in haywards heath.

Approaching pensionable age though it’s far better going to football when you’re not looking over your shoulder.

Only away game was the 5 penalty match. Best home game - the Andone goal game for me, had everything.

That’s a very good description of what happened that day. I witnessed it from the opposite end. It looked like quite a battle. It was typical of what happened on a routine basis at matches in the 70s and 80s. I could probably write a book about all the stupid things that happened at that time but, on reflection, it would be embarrassing.

Easter 1980 I think.... Good Friday away at Selhurst.... Albion in the old White Horse terrace was full, it held close to 10k.... I am sure it was 1-1.... feisty walk back to Norwood Junction.... encountered some itinerant Millwall outside the station, scuffles then home to GOSBTS.

I’ve been to Selhurst Park three times, and not seen us lose.
Two draws and the 2005 McShane game.
i wont go again, as getting trampled by our own fans, and then having to sit on a coach for over an hour, behind a steel barrier is not my idea of enjoyment.

The St Patrick’s Day game at the Amex was very enjoyable. The REMF games as well.

It’s the only away ground I’ve seen us from all four sides/stands

Holmsdale - a night match, 1-1 about 10 years ago. Couldn’t get a ticket so a Palace supporting mate obliged. I was on my own initially but at half time he told me to stand with them as everyone was standing so I could just squeeze in, it was right in with the “woah,woah” it was fuckin ‘orrible.
On the way back to the station (NJ) we were directed one way as they’d put a big wall up.
At the junction of the two sets of fans meeting I was stopped right at the front of all the Palace, so as the Brighton walked past I was getting shit loads of abuse from them, and getting crushed and covered in remnants of spit etc from the Palace behind. A night to forget.

Sainsbury’s end - that 3-0 defeat, took my boy in there as he was only three years old and obv couldn’t get him a ticket in the away end. That was horrible to start with as well, however only a couple of minutes in an “eagle eyed” steward (see what I did there?) spotted my son’s hat and we subsequently got removed into the away end.

That side opposite The Terry Waite - A pre season friendly about 1982, on the train two girls about 19/20 years old saw a badge or something on me and asked if I wanted a free ticket, I accepted gleefully, they carried on talking to each other and I shyly kept myself to myself (I was only 14) however even at my young age I put two and two together and established these comp tickets we picked up at the office were the result of a …erm …. good night out with a couple of Palace players

I've only seen us win at once their shitehole 84/85. Neil smilie scored a wonder goal, and maybe Danny Wilson. I was a mere whipper snapper. And It was 2-0

I remember at one game late 70s early 80s at their ground I was held by 2 OBs and taken to the OB hut. They deemed that my shoes were offensive weapons and I had a choice of taking them off or getting thrown out of the ground. In the hut the desk OB gave a look of WTF when I took my shoes off and put them in with the bovver boots already there. As it was raining I had to find crisp packets to put on my feet. I must say the Golden Wonder bags were really helpful in keeping my feet dry. Other crisp bags manufacturers were also available.

Pedant alert, that was 83/84 (Boxing day ‘83in fact). My first ever Palarse game, thrown out, got back in, sat amongst them for 2nd half and saw both our goals. Sweet.

I was there that day as a 13 year old with my dad - standing in the Holmsdale end amongst all the Palace fans in the good old days of pay on the gate because half my family are from Croydon and were Palace fans so we all went together ! (sadly some are no longer with us). Fond memories of my old man telling me not to move each time we scored ! :lolol:

I went to all those games and probably every other game mentioned on her so far, having first started going to Selhurst Park in 1968. Thinking about it, I probably grew up at the same time as the rivalry!

Obviously, I’m going to have a different set of memories to you guys, but for me it was the play off game when Zaha made the near impossible happen at the Amex.
