[Albion] "What [Brighton] does is also very bad"

Not sure we've made many friends in Boca, based on an interview that their President, Juan Román Riquelme, has recently given...

"I had to be a soccer player and I don't know if I did well or not or better than him. They came to me to look for a lot of teams, but I said no. The decision is up to the player. The representative wants to convince you and then the family too, but the one who signs the role is the player. What he did for me is very bad," Riquelme shot to break the ice in a previously monochrome interview with ESPN.
And he didn't stay there. Among ironic comments, the brand new boss of the Xeneize also launched questions against the representative of the soccer player, Adrián Ruocco, and also against the actions of the directors of Brighton.
"What the European club does is also very bad. But the decision is always made by the player," complained Riquelme, visibly obfuscated by the way Barco and his agent, who is an old acquaintance in Boca for his link with Carlos Tevez, were handled.

In this instance where a player has a release clause, it seems like we did something quite honorable in giving Boca the chance to potentially profit in the future from a sell-on clause. Objectively, I can't really see how that can be construed as behaving badly. It's not our issue if the player has a low release clause in his contract, that's between his agent and Boca.

This is the food chain in action. If we accept that we’re going to get these wonder kids in here then we have to accept that a Chelsea type club will then buy them from us.

Boca need to negotiate a good add on, we negotiate a high fee and the Chelsea type club is the one that actually ends up disappointed

Basically stop pressuring us to sell our best players as our country’s economy goes down the toilet.

The thing is in this instance, no pressure was really required. Boca had no say in whether the player stayed or not, unless they convinced him to sign a new contract. All they really had was the choice over whether they received the buy out figure in one chunk or whether they accepted installments and a sell-on clause.

Didn't Boca offer Barco a new contract with a higher release clause?

Double standards for me, we've done nothing wrong.

Always preferred River Plate

Reeks of someone who is unable to accept there are bigger fish in the pond.

Football is a business, not our issue if they had a relatively low release clause.
Financially yes. But must be frustrating for a huge club like Boca to be losing players on the cheap due to the PL money, especially for a club like Brighton.

I don't feel great about this but I understand it is the football food chain business in action. Ultimately we can only take care of our own business, and recognise that the selling club and we are stepping stones to feed the voracious 'loadsamoney' club appetites....

What is there to not feel great about?

Boca themselves negotiated a contract with Barco that included a release clause. Albion met that release clause.

What on earth have Albion done wrong in this instance?
