Agreed. West Ham set up like an away team, RDZ knows he’ll do this so blocks the counter, result is a clean sheet and an away point. Well played lads.

At the end of the day, it's a point on the board - but the main thing for me is that it's a reminder that we get to watch amazing beautiful football every week.
It's an incredible luxury that West Ham fans don't have, and they have no choice but to watch this boring defensive shite EVERY week.

I doubt it's as boring as that every week.
Moyes has taken 4 points off us this season by backing his defence to repel our possession game. It's worked. They've had a few eye-catching results this season and are sixth, and you don't get those parking the bus.
Happy with the point but disappointed it's not 3 as we controlled the whole second half and really should have scored one or two.
There is another possibility.
We are bloody good and even with a threadbare side we made Sham look poor.

Given our extensive losses it was handy that they were missing Antonio, Paqueta and Kudus. May have been a different outcome if they were involved, but we played well and deserved to have won - if we hadn't rammed everything down Areola's throat.

That second half was a thing of beauty, as I perched silently in the home end behind the goal. Utterly bossed it and had plenty of chances. Their defenders were going down with cramp, having barely touched the ball, as our players strolled and coaxed and prodded and planted pass after pass. I loved it.

They have scored only 5 fewer and conceded 3 fewer. They are not like that every week.

It was tactically really interesting. Feels like RDZ has got spiky about no clean sheets, certainly his post match interview suggested that. That was a performance designed to stop the counter, to stop them scoring. It worked at one end, but at the other, clearly not so much.
RDZ tactics is in part about drawing teams towards you to create space at the other end. Sure, West Ham didn't give us much of that. But in the few occasions we did have that space we nearly always declined to use it. Take Steele catching their corner. Waited for everyone to go upfield, then put the ball down in the six yard box and played short. Time and again we turned back and reset the play, a ploy I am sure to keep everyone in their shape, to keep West Ham so deep that they couldn't counter on us.
It felt like watching mid-era Potterball, huge amounts of possession, lots of half chances, constantly probing at a packed defence, no goals. I wonder if this was just for West Ham, or a consequence of player availability, or a genuine tweak in style to stop these counter attacking goals in games we otherwise dominate.
When Potter came we immediately started playing much more exciting football than under his predecessor, more goals, some statement victories, but also a lot of counter attaching goals conceded and results not matching performances. So the style was tweaked and eventually the counter attacking goals against dried up. But it took a lot longer for the results to follow, despite playing really nice football, and Potter started getting a bit spiky in the media. Eventually everything clicked and during late-era Potter we started winning games whilst conceding very few. And then he buggered off to a 'big' club. I don't know if we're watching a similar trajectory play out here, whether RDZ is thinking more defensive minded, but to me at least Burnley, Palace, West Ham have all felt like those mid-era Potter games.

Parking the bus is exactly what they do, every game. The reason they are 6th is due to the way they counter from the bus park,, they do that very well. Horrible to watch but west ham fans apparently no longer care about the football, its all down to results and league position.
On another day we would have scored a couple (at least), and the game would have played out very differently. Moyes’ gamble (that his defence would win out) only worked due to a considerable amount of bad luck (from our perspective). Whilst it may have seemed a bit like late-era Potterball, once you factor in all our absentees it was hardly surprising that we had to play the ball around in front of their defence quite a bit.
At the end of the day, one of the big positives is that West Ham only got a point. They are a real threat to our chances of European football next season, so stopping them drawing further ahead was pretty important.

I have no complaints about the result last night, it's a solid point away from home against a comparable team. Considering how Brentford have slipped perilously down the table with all their injuries I think we can marvel at how RDZ has managed us through this sticky period. With players returning from injury over the next month I feel really positive about the rest of the season.
