Jeez! It's a bit of Photoshop, FFS! It's not like someone has popped over to South America and stuck a massive Albion blanket over the thing (plus Norm's face!).
If one of these offended people happen to stumble across North Stand Chat and see @Dick Head's creation, I'll happily point out why they shouldn't be offended by a doctored picture – probably before telling them it's probably NOT the place for them!
It's a question of perspective.
I agree it's not the worst, most insulting thing ever, but it is a bit disrespectful, it is being facetious about something with religious significance.
You're fine with the photo-shopped image, but you're upset/triggered (using words like "Jeez! FFS!") by someone mentioning that it might be disrespectful.
If you think it's okay for someone to post an image like that, by the same token you shouldn't be overly upset if someone expresses their negative feelings about it.
If someone sees fit to post an image like that, then they might get some blow-back, albeit mild. I have as much right to point that out as he does to post it in the first place.

My comment about How shallow and inane our society has become was referring to the reaction that someone thinks it's brilliant, rather than the image itself, but I suppose it can apply to both. To respect would be to reflect on what it means and refrain from posting it for some cheap bit of "humour." Christianity is a cheap shot. You know that no one is going to come looking for you with an axe or bullets as happened to the Danish and Japanese translators of the Satanic verses, or the cartoonists of Charlie Hebdo. It seems religion suddenly gets massive respect when it's a scary version. If the followers are docile, we get photo-shopped images of Christ the Redeemer, and how dare anyone raise the slightest objection.
What happened to the translators who have worked on The Satanic Verses?

I'm not upset or triggered. I'm just a bit bemused as to how a post on a thread on a football forum suddenly turns into a conversation about an international/cultural/religious incident. And I'm one of the most 'woke' people I know...
If it was posted on general social media – or was subject of mainstream advertising – I'd completely understand, but this is a largely closed shop where the predominant subject matter is football, as opposed to religion.
It's not exactly an original concept, either. But back then, the main motivation from the Brazilian Catholic church seemed to be more about how much money they could squeeze out of an Italian broadcaster, rather than actually righting a cultural wrong. Priorities, eh?
So you're right – it IS a question of perspective. I mean, heaven forbid anyone should mess around with such a sacred statue...

If you want to go down the route of respect and the catholic faith, then that opens up a WHOLE other can of historical worms relating to the clergy and their conduct – not to mention the obscene amount of money an organisation that claims to 'care for the poor and needy' has in its coffers. But that would derail the thread even further...

It's disrespectful in a general sense. That's how it struck me so I posted it, without reflecting on precisely the degree to which it is so. Weighing it up, I concluded the level of disrespect was low, and probably not intended to be offensive, so I described it as "a bit". I have christian beliefs, but find the picture a bit amusing and light-hearted. I do not think it is genuinely making out that Norman Cook is Christ, nor is it saying that he is the saviour of mankind. However, for his part, without the money he ploughed into the club in the dark days we'd have surely gone under, it was a redemption of sorts for BHA and our supporters. The bible actually encourages believers to become more christlike so surely a person becoming more christlike in that they are kind, generous and thinking of others is no bad thing?

No, you've misunderstood, which is perhaps understandable. I'm not offended on anyone's behalf. I am a Christian, but it goes beyond that.
I just don't like it. It's not that I feel offended, because that would be the wrong word, but there's something I don't like about it. I feel that it is treating as trivial something of great importance. It's a symptom of society, that everything has to be banter all the time, there is no depth, and everything is meaningless and to be mocked. The priorities of society I find strange. One of my son's friends, 17, was stabbed to death recently. There's a lot I could say about this, but I don't think it would be appreciated. Maybe I shouldn't have said anything. But I did and now look at us!
Anyway, I quite like the current kit.
