Despite our propensity for young South Americans we suddenly have 3 Germans in the squad for next season.
You seem to be suggesting that the returning Reda Khadra won't make the grade.

Blimey, if threads weren’t allowed to deviate a little bit, NSC would be a lot quieter and quickly die a death.
There’s deviating and there’s derailing, the latter happens a lot on here. Especially when the usual wannabe alphas are trying to assert dominance over each other!

Historically some Germans have had an affinity with South America???
No need to be going down that path.

Though there have been some wonderful World Cup matches of Brazil v Germany and Argentina v Germany. (OK and a couple of truly dire ones as well)

Indeed. It’s what makes NSC what it is. It’s a conversation. I’m a little late to this one. So is he the Caicedo replacement?
Most reports seem to liken him to Ilkay Gundogan. So not really someone tied to either being a defensive tackling mid or a more advanced goalscoring one, but more someone who moves/links between those positions. He's probably more Mac Allister than Caicedo but I would imagine we're bringing this guy in to expand the squad, & if Mac or Moises leaves we'll also bring in another.

Well, that doesn’t sound too bad !!!!!

Really interesting insight into him from the Albion Unlimited this week from Jonathan Harding (German footy expert and Brighton fan). Very much worth a listen but the basics are:
  • Was a huge talent in his breakthrough season at Moenchengladbach;
  • Suffered with injuries of late;
  • A real talent, but unsure how he fits in to the Albion style of play but halfway between a Caicedo and a Mac Allister;
  • Likes a line breaking pass;
  • Ultimately, a great, low-risk squad player but may need a partner to do the dirty work.

I think Mahmoud Dahoud to the tune of Blondie's "Denise, Denise", perhaps
Two players, one song:

"Ooh Mahmoud Dahoud, I'm in love with you
Mahmoud Dahoud, I'm in love with with you...
Deniz, Deniz, you are our second Kurd
Deniz, Deniz, for us there are no words
Deniz, Deniz, we're so in love with Undav too."

It's not at all. Welbeck was a highly injury prone player who lacked form, even at Watford.

Dahoud is a top player in a world class team who had an injury, but is not injury prone, and has mainly been left out of the team because of some of the best players in the world play in his position, no exaggeration.

This is a top, top quality player in his prime. He will immediately become one of our best players.

What we did with Welbeck was incredible.... But we won't have to do anything with Dahoud. He'll be amongst the first names on the team sheet from day one, and likely to be an ever present.
There's a difference between being injury prone and spending the last few years mostly injured. The latter is a fact- as stated in the podcast mentioned above. I'm not saying he is a dud, he's just not joining us off the back of two full seasons. I'm not even for one minute saying we are signing an injured player- we obviously wouldn't do that. But the reason he has played so little over the last two seasons IS as much about his injuries as the quality of his teammates (remember he started the season in the team, then got injured) and to say he will be 'ever present' is total guess work given his history. Obviously, I hope he remains fit.
And at no point am I denying his quality or the excitement of this signing.
So my point stands - this is our kind of signing, low outlay with an amount of risk for potentially huge reward.
