In about 600 gigs in Europe I have seen a lot of nonsense at football matches. So here’s our calling card!

TO MAINLAND EUROPE’S ULTRAS

Please don’t throw pyro at us
It really is a bore
And homophobic chanting?
We’ve heard it all before
So best not think that you’ve come to
A new city to frighten
Cos we’ll just want to welcome you -
We’re all-inclusive Brighton!

Why don’t you join us in our pubs
And try our local brew?
It’s flat and warm, you say? Of course.
We hope you like it too!
We’ve had to fight for thirty years
To get to where we are
So we are just not interested
In punch ups in a bar….

And when we come to visit you
Don’t threaten us and jeer
Cos we’ll just want to watch the game
And drink the local beer
And learn about your history
Find new things to enjoy
And if you’ve got a chess firm then
I’ll challenge your top boy

I have a lot of respect for you Attila, and love most of your posts, but that is very cringey to say the least. Wherever we go it is going to be more hostile but I am all for it and the experience. It is a huge part of European football, flares, hostility etc you can still go and enjoy it, writing poems before we have even gone there pleading to not have things thrown at us is a bit odd 😂

I think you’ve got the wrong end of the stick here. I’ve seen lots of the ‘good’ aspects of pyro/ultras culture at first hand and much is absolutely inspirational and really adds to the atmosphere. I’ve stood in the Gegengerade at at St Pauli with a pint in one hand and a lit flare in the other many times, been to Standard Liege/Marseille/Virtus Verona etc - but also to Cottbus, Halle, Rostock …

it’s a simple equation: if you’re an Ultra doing displays/pyro in support of your team great, if you’re chucking fireworks and attacking old people and kids not OK.

I’m not ‘pleading’ for anything by the way, it’s not my style.

I see, well, it came out as the opposite from reading if first off. Again, without hearing the tone, the words written can often be misconceived.
