[Albion] Can we talk about Sanchez ?

Indeed. RDZ wants the better sweeper.

I’d bite your hand off for a Sanchez-Colwill swap deal!

That's an old article, can't see Chelsea wanting Sanchez anymore - they'd have gone for him if Potter was still in charge I think.

Spurs could be a shout, hopefully we can get some good money for him.

Incredible if he is first choice at either of these!! Not good enough
Maybe not, but there’s going to be gaps to fill at the clubs they take their goalkeeper from.

If Martinez leaves Villa than that then becomes a possibility…Leicester do if they stay up.

The way things have played out I think Sanchez probably goes on a season long loan with option to buy. I would expect that won’t be in the Premier League but probably Spain or Italy. I think quite a few Serie A clubs would bite their hands off for his qualities.

Personally think you are wrong and I think he is going to end up being a top keeper. I think it's a big mistake to let him go. Steele isn't a long term answer (doing very well to be fair) so I guess we have someone in mind. Shame as Bob is still fairly decent with his feet (granted Steele is better) and by far the superior shot stopper out of the 2.

I wonder if losing Sanchez could prove to be De Zerbi's first big mistake? I only watch us on MOTD, highlight reels, and the occasional free-to-air televised match, but I'm sure I've seen Sanchez pinging out some damn decent passes, both short and long - was that passing level really bad enough to drop him? I realise Steele is doing well, but I'd rather have Big Bob's stopping and dominating his area ability - is Steele's footwork really that much better?

Never been confident watching Sanchez at corners or with crosses, even before the Palace fiasco. I think RDZ is clearly thinking about mentality as a big factor as well, Steele spent so much time as number two and seemingly never threw his toys out the pram. Big Bob is dropped for ten games and he already seems like he’s given up.

The semi final wasn’t the best kept kicking the ball out of play. I know keepers make mistakes although the Palace fumble can’t be happening at this level.

Steele save % 64,1%
Sanchez save % 66,2%

Steele pass completion 89,2% (short 99,3; medium 98,1; long 59,6)
Sanchez pass completion 77,3% (short 99,5; medium 96,9; long 41,1)

TBH Steele was a bit overconfident yesterday for my liking (and bossed it though) but as Paranoid said Sanchez had always one or two mistakes (catching high balls or rushing out) per game waiting to happen. Cannot say that rotating keepers in cup games and finding out that 2nd keeper plays the system better is a mistake...

Sanchez is world class. He needs first team football. I'd wish him well wherever he goes (apart from SE25 obviously).
Are there many "world class" keepers out there sitting on the bench behind a near-33 year-old who until this season had never played in the top flight?

He's unquestionably a very, very good goalie with loads of potential but "world class"? Not even close. I think he could get to that level, but he's not there yet

If you were at matches you would see that Steele is light years ahead of Bob in terms of distribution and composure under pressure. I think it was Gary Neville that said yesterday that Steele is like playing with an extra defender on the pitch and it's true. His passing and vision are exceptional and I expect him to be our starting no 1 at the start of next season.

It's interesting that there's hardly any noise about Sanchez, even though a number of Prem sides need a keeper.

For me, I hated the way he would pat the ball down before gathering it in, it almost seemed like a case of the yips. And - at times - he was so casual he seemed almost drugged. And he never ever looked like saving a penalty. Yet, he was an upgrade on Ryan and had excellent command of his area. If he wants to stay in the Prem I could see Raya to Spurs, Bob to Brentford OR a move back to Spain.

International class maybe (how many caps?). World class? - nah. He might get there one day if he can straighten his head but he’s way short at the moment.
Exactly. He’s not even the second best keeper in Spain.

How do those stats compare with other keepers in the PL? 89.2% seems v good , although most are only 5 yard passes, but the save% perhaps a little low compared to the top keepers, I am guessing?

I have a feeling a deal has been done somewhere already with Sanchez. Will be interesting to see where he ends up. If it's an epl team I can't see him getting a very good reception.

When Steele first came in I thought it would be temporary, but I can now see that he is definitely the better keeper for RDZ's demands.

I still think Sanchez is an excellent keeper and should get us a very good price, but just as the game has moved on and needed keepers better with their feet, leaving excellent goalkeepers such as De Gea and Lloris looking somewhat limited, maybe RDZ is moving it on again and goalkeepers are going to need all the footballing skills demonstrated elsewhere on the pitch ???
