I hope he commentates tonight just to hear him try to explain how difficult a chance is when his mate Jack Grealish misses an absolute sitter

He is so shit, it’s entertaining
I can't say I've noticed an issue with him. Although I did struggle to work out how JG's open goal was a difficult chance.

Seems a nice guy but I can’t stand his punditry.

To me a good pundit actually dissects the tactics, discusses game plans, is well researched and actually analyses aspects of the game which the average punter might miss.

The vast majority don’t do this, including Dublin. They react to something that has just happened by either stating the obvious, or completing missing what has happened, watching a replay, then walking back their real time reaction.

“To me, that looks a bit soft Clive”

*watches replay*

“You can see why the ref has given it”

I can’t think of a single pundit/analyst who actually discusses a team’s shape or approach to a game in a wider context. They just rave about the star player (Ronaldo, Messi, De Bruyne etc) and hope they do something amazing so they can cream themselves over them.

In short, commentators yes (not Matterface please), pundits no.

That's fine. You like your football your way. I like my football my way.
You just reminded me of that Peter Cook and Dudley Moore skit:

"In America, they have their soul singers, and in the UK, we have..."

6-0-6 was good tonight. Instead of the comedy hour with clever Chris and schoolboy Savage (which can be quite fun but is mostly Savage trying to be provocative and Sutton slapping him down) we had Clever Chris and Aaron Paul. Paul is a proper presenter who knows the game. Sutton barely got a word in (and sounded like he was happy to listen to good programme management, and speak when invited). I really enjoyed it.

Sounds good. Can you do one of those linky thingummies?

P.S. Scrub that, I think I've found it.

Having watched the Italy game I will never never never NEVER complain about any co-commentator/summariser ever ever EVER again. That's a promise. He was beyond shocking.

The only thing I can say in his defence is that he learnt his football under John 'Route One' Beck at Cambridge. That's what explains his approval of aimless long balls, his use of the term 'POMO', and his ability to excuse a multi-million pound footballer missing an open goal.

I didn't see the Ukraine game, but apparently he wasn't on duty.

Me too, I genuinely loved MOTD when they were no commentators, pundits or analysis. I know I can look it all up online but I enjoyed an hour or so of PL games being shown on the BBC with no breaks between games and just crowd noise.

I didn’t know about the red button for crowd noise only, shame it’s no longer available, I could live with analysis after each game as a compromise if it was still available. However it’s presented I’ll keep watching it, as long as it’s not a game we have been shit in and I’ve already seen in full when I go into sulk mode and don’t watch any of it
An hour or so? It was 20 minutes. If you're sure you're not pushing an agenda there I'd get yourself checked out.

I much prefer watching live. What you see is what you get.
I don't mind a decent commentary for a TV game but the pundits generally bore me to tears.
Yes the pundits have alway bored me also, I have one pundit that sits near me, he is so bad at it too, once he confused lamptey with welbeck and every opposition player is alway offside by a country mile. You can predict what he is going to say, he is that boring.

Hate people like that. Does my tits in. Not being funny but I’m alright (comparatively to some!) at analysing a game, but nobody wants to hear that shit out loud. Especially when it’s wrong.

I get the feeling he doesn't know he is doing it.

I watched the Channel 4 coverage of the Italy match and have to agree he was pretty clueless. However, I don't think he lays a glove on the true master of stating the obvious, loves the sound of his own voice, shit pundit, that is Mr Andy Towsend. We still have to put up with his tedious drivel on the international coverage of the Premier League. If anything, he commentates too well, Clive.

I don't DISLIKE Dublin. He tries.

But when it comes to football co-commentary, its like listening to Alan Carr trying to narrate The Blue Planet.
