[Albion] Man's life saved outside the Amex

Just wanted to share a video of a man being saved by our paramedics and medical support team (happened about 4/5 months ago I think?)

Apologize if it's been shared before.

To date there has been 7 cardiac arrests in and outside the Amex and everyone has survived.

Dr Rob Galloway, and this gentleman who survived were both on the big screens at half time, on Sunday, talking about the work the St John Ambulance and himself have done at the Amex.
It shows the value of defibrillators being available.

Indeed it is. It's a hard watch for me as my wife died last year of a cardiac arrest at home, though I attempted to get her back it was 30 minutes before help arrived.

This important piece of kit is worth every penny, locally I'm attempting to get them in every public building. I'm working with a local chap who without the quick thinking of the householder who's garden he was working at, wouldn't be here today.

Don't normally see half time but as I was driving on Sunday I didn't bother with a half time pint. That video was amazing. If anyone can share it then it is well worth a watch. The stats he gave about the chances of all 7 people who have suffered similar since the Amex opened was astounding. Can't remember it exactly but it was over 1 in a billion!!

Amazing story and fair play to the Forest gentleman for allowing the club to share his story. The whole ground applauded when the video finished. It was genuinely quite humbling.

I agree. I had a look on the Club's YouTube account to see if it was there, to copy it here, but it isn't. It definitely needs sharing.

didn’t a supporter sadly pass away after the 5-0 against fulham from that? though i’m pretty sure that was at the station, and maybe it wasn’t cardiac related, just seem to remember hearing something like that at the time

huge respect to those paramedic teams regardless

Only 1 in 20 victims survive a cardiac arrest.

To have stats of 7-0 is quite outstanding.

Odds of 7-0 are one in 1.28 billion Amazing! Though presumably a bit less when a defibrillator and trained users are on hand. Still, pretty impressive.

Remember it being at the station and the chap was in his 90s. Not sure they’re counting station as part of the Amex in the stat.

I was just about to ask the same.
I remember seeing him on the platform with people trying to resuscitate him but I thought he passed away.

Yes, a quite elderly gentleman, and I don't think it was cardiac related.

Defib finder – find the defibrillators nearest you.

Defib finder uses data from The Circuit, the national defibrillator network, to help you find information about the nearest defibrillators to you.

It’s extremely easy to use on a smartphone and could very well save a life. Most defib machines will speak to you and tell you exactly what to do but I really recommend anyone who can, getting classroom training on them.

My Dad was the first person to be treated for a Cardic Arrest at the Amex back in November 2011, after the Coventry home game.
A Defibrillator was used and he was back at the Amex in Feb 2012. He’s very frail now at the age of 89 and in a Nursing Home.
The survival rates show what the impact is of having a defibrillator nearby.
Our family did a bit of a fund raise and bought a couple of defibrillators which I believe were put on the Palace pier and Crawley football ground. They are definitely life savers.

Just wow, that was profoundly moving. What incredible, brilliant, professional people - there can't be many better places to be when having an event like that occur. One side of that enclosure wall had 22 men running around with an inflatable ball to much reward & veneration (from myself as much as anyone) & then on that side something like that is unfolding. I know that sounds a bit silly & sentimental but, anyway; hope the guy makes a perfect recovery & ultimate respect to all those involved.

I have an implanted defribulator that has given me over 60 shocks, over 8 years.
It’s not pleasant, but it’s saved my life every time. A quite brilliant invention, without it I would have died 14 years ago.

we all have to go but preferably with some family members around to say goodbye , the heartache saved there is immeasurable ..

Aren't all deaths cardiac related?

Well done to all involved in saving this mans life. Goes to show that if you are going to have a heart attack, best to have it near a football ground and an ambulance crew.

No, it is when the brain stops working. It is possible to die from a bleed on the brain, a blow to the head, a clot on the brain etc.
