[News] HRH Prince Philip has died

I thought it was a great service, and you could see the effort and detail that the Duke had put into the planning of it.

The execution was flawless - as others have said, we as a nation do these occasions better than anyone else.

It must be an awful time for the Queen, losing the love of her life and her husband of nearly three quarters of a century and whatever anyone's view of the Monarchy or Royal Family, you'd have to have a heart of stone not to feel for someone facing such a situation.

I’m not a royalist at all but the brief shot towards the end of her service of the Queen sitting alone totally cut me up and I shed a tear. An image that reflected what must be intensive personal grief and isolation at moments when you would normally have the warmth of others around you. Obviously so many have been through this without the resources and support she has but these images still seemed in some way to display themes that have characterised the last 12 months.

Poignant and absolutely beautifully done, as always. I can see Her Maj handing over to Charlie quite soon now, **** me she deserves a rest. What a woman.

I love the Queen and am proud of our Royal Family and the good they do (with a couple of exceptions).

No, people like her don't break. Of course at her age her time is limited, but I won't speculate about that sad day. It will come when it comes. It will seem strange having a King again though - I've kind of got used to Her Majesty being on the throne!

She will not stand down. She took her vows at her coronation and will keep them until she dies. She may hand over more responsibilities gradually, having already delegated foreign visits. She started work again within 4 days of HRH death, with the dispatch boxes.

Maybe and for us it was so simple in that no public just family and the walk back after the service and we have all been there as others have posted the odd shot of The Queen was moving as much as it must have been for herself.

The acoustics in St George’s chapel were amazing. Not even a microphone nor loudspeaker can replicate it.

Quite. I’m not a fan of the RF and didn’t view the funeral. They’re a family apart and live a surreal life of unbelievable and undeserved privilege. However, bereavement is the great leveller and I feel for anyone losing a loved one.

In my youth I sung in Canterbury Cathedral with my school choir. What a privilege. Phenomenal acoustics. They really did know how to make buildings back in the day.

It's strange how we have 'new' Prince & Princess of Wales and now a new Duke of Edinburgh. For those of us who have been around so long that there were only Charles (and Di) and THE Duke.

That was why he was ‘only’ given an Earldom when he married. It was always going to be the case that he was to be the successor to the Duke of Edinburgh.
He runs the DofE scheme, has been involved with it for a long time. He spoke to my daughter & I at BP IN 1993, when she received her Gold Award.
The King automatically received his father’s titles when he died, but the understanding was always to give the title to Edward.

We also now have a Duchess of Edinburgh.
