six feet beneath the moon...
This attitude from pundits focusing on the business and money side of deals is really starting to grate on my nerves, Sherwood, Merson and the rest. "I'd bite their hand off for that money" "I'd drive him there myself" f***ing clueless to ignore that actual footballing reasons why we would want to keep players.
because according to them 'actual footballing reasons' don't exist for clubs like us. in their eyes, we exist simply to supply the big clubs with players, nothing else, and we should be grateful we've been allowed to be in the premier league in the first place.

Trossard went for nearly that and he had 18 months left on his contract. Mitoma is three years younger, would still have two years on his contract and is better than Trossard. Tony Bloom has just thrown Arsenal out of his office for offering more than twice that for Caicedo. "Isn't going to command a huge fee" - Nice research Stan.
Maybe £30m is just for his left nut?

Apologies if fixtures, but Stan Collymore has been sharing more of his wisdom, this time about Mitoma:

“He isn’t going to command a huge fee. He’ll have two years left on his deal and he was bought for virtually nothing, so from a commercial point of view, even a £30m offer, which would be over a 500 per cent return on investment in just 12 months, would be too good for Brighton to turn down.

“And, as we all know, that kind of deal is something Chelsea’s new owner would lick his lips at.”

 :lolol:
Yep, saw that last night. What a plum he is. It wouldn't surprise me if he said it purely for the attention he'd get from it!

Collymore is an idiot. Nothing to see here or anywhere in his oxygen range.

I don't know where the media gets the figures from, but if you look on the internet, he is being referred to as £35m Mitoma. Utter nonsense again. It makes you wonder whether the clubs who want to buy leak low valuations to the press in the hope that the club that owns players believes the figure. History would suggest that this doesn't work on Mr Bloom.

Why is it always low-ball offers being reported?

Where’s the headline about someone offering 100m for him? At least that would be interesting.

As always, the best approach is to not get riled, not get involved with twitter plastics or low grade pundits. Let them say what they like to each other in their deluded sphere of listeners.

I'm just going to get with going to watch my stunning football team, play incredible football, and climb the league, knowing that when a bid comes in for one of our excellent players it will only be accepted if it's genuinely in the clubs interest to accept and we've got someone better lined up for the place.

I'm sure we have flogged a few Mitoma shirts, but for relatively small amounts of money. What players like Kaoru give the club is less measurable, but something sought after by every Chief Exec of every company everywhere. Brand prominence. That's where the real money is, because sponsors want a a bit of Brighton star dust attached to their name, I bet we announce tonnes of random sponsorship deals, in the next year. Official bog roll supplier, that sort of thing. When the Amex deal is up for renewal, we can genuinely market ourselves as a world brand.

Not just because of Mitoma, but our marvellous world cup winner and other role models around the world, we are, quite suddenly, very marketable

I was curious about this since you asked, the Telegraph says;

“Tim Crow, a sports marketing consultant, told Telegraph Sport last year that the industry standard is for the club to receive between five and 10 per cent of the proceeds from each shirt sale.”

In a market run by grown-ups and not sportwashing super states, oligarchs and American billionaires, Mitoma probably is £30m tops. Or should be.

However the market isn't run by grown-ups and a player with a few appearances and goals can be £5m one minute, 20 games later can be £80m - it is utterly ridiculous we are talking in those terms, but that is the new normal. It is what it is!
