The point is the agent was not just making his availability known - he wasn't actually available at all. The agent tried to force us to make him available through questionable tactics

I still feel it’s a pretty standard tactic for agents, and while unwelcome, it’s a known part of the game.

Not being “little old Brighton” any more brings a new set of problems, and having players that teams able to pay more actually want is (in a way) a lovely problem to have.

Personally, I’m not convinced that the agent has done anything that agents don’t do as a matter of course. The agent is just doing their job in making their client’s availability known.

I do hope that someone at board level sits down with Caicedo, gives the club’s position, and suggests clear the air talks with the agent.

While the agent will naturally be disappointed at not having a massive payday within a week of signing their new client, they won’t want to be burning bridges with the best travelled route to the Premier League available to players in their neck of the woods. They will also want to maximise their potential payday when a deal is done, and would do well to come onside, for their client’s sake, and their own.
1. He wasn’t available at all. The club held full contractual rights and particularly as it was late January, were enforcing them by agreeing to nothing.

2. It was on a different universe to making “availability known”. In cahoots/orchestrating illegal tapping up and employment contracts terms/wages were agreed.

Just a notch below this comical event.

That social media post isn't a 'standard practice' by an agent. There are probably some decent agents (who are less well-known) who do things the 'right'way and get a fair deal for all parties.

That berk just overplayed his hand against Tony Bloom. What a plum!

To be fair, Trossard basically took a similar approach and got the outcome, so not surprising they tried it.

The thing i can not get my head around is the record deal for the club.
Did the agent just hear £70m and say thats enough they wont turn that down? I just dont get wby you put that when a deal has not been agreed, goes to show what an Amateur the agent is.

For the first few weeks I had my doubts, but now I have just the utmost respect for RDZ.

I absolutely loved what he had to say about Caceido and how things should be.

Where he leads, I will follow.

I think the situation was rather different. OK, both players/agents were angling for a move. Trossard did it before the window opened, whereas Moises' agent did it in the last week. The club had an easier way to deal with the latter.

I can tell I’m in a minority here, but I just can’t get all worked up over agents being agents. Every player is in contract, and on lots of occasions clubs sniff around and try to agree personal terms via the agent before any agreement is reached with the club.

We’re going to have to learn to deal with this without clutching our pearls going forward, it’s going to happen a lot.

I’m not angry, Tony emphatically won. It was lovely to see a huge spending club and an agent, for once, fail.

I’ve this warm feeling that highly cerebral TB/PB are playing agents and buying clubs like a piano. The August club statement and ‘resistance’ from Tony over Cuckoo, now appears contrived, reverse psychology in fuelling the mini marketplace and hence price. Everything seems to be on the Albion’s terms.

Loving this.

All players have agents and those agents will be up to all sorts of scummy things lots of the time, sure. But they usually do it discretely, in the shadows and with some intelligence.

The public outburst is a ploy to use only when a player holds some cards like a short contract, is rarely playing or has it in them to be a massive bellend.

Trossard was so miseable that there was a real chance he could go on strike and disrupt the team. Plus he was on a short contract and on the way to being replaced, we likely would have sold him without the public strop. On the other hand Caicedo was enjoying himself, playing week in, week out and is known to be an honest character. Pretending he would sulk and cause issues was pathetic.

The idiocy was in not grasping the numerous differences between Trossard and Caicedo situations and thinking a poorly written Instagram message would change anything. Just pointless, public shit stirring, making Caicedo look a bit of a muppet.

Well, I'm not sure anyone can quite believe that we, Brighton, turned down 70m for a player. It wasn't as if Arsenal low balled us after all.

The agent’s job is literally to get the best deal for their client in a role that tends to last between 10-15 years. They know that a club has put in a club record offer for their client, and will offer significantly higher wages than their client is currently getting.

The agency, looking for a payday, has tried to push things along. Still not seeing that the agent has done anything but try to maximise their client’s earnings.

I love our club, I’m glad Caicedo’s still here, but I can’t join the outrage.

If Swanny was still around he would be lecturing us all on how badly this was being handled and that Graham would have done it so much better.

Exactly this... they definitely fuelled the marketplace (nicely put) and created peak Cucu. It was brilliant.

I'm not outraged at trying to engineer a move. Everyone gets rich. I get it.

I'm outraged at how arrogant and plain frikin stupid they are.

Do we know it’s arrogance? For sure? I guess the difference for me is that I assume most people try to do their best in whatever role they’re in.

If my job were to maximise my client’s earnings in the finite window of their footballing career, then the sooner a move happens, the better. My job becomes to actively push for that.

The public statement was likely to be a sign of desperation after a lack of willingness to negotiate on the Brighton side. I’m glad we held our ground, but I’m not going to demonise Caicedo’s agents for doing their job either.
