We were probably on the lookout for a Trossard replacement, but Mitoma has more than filled that spot & we only have to wait 6 months until Adingra is with us. Then there's the inevitable hunt for a striker, but Ferguson has filled that spot. We might have been looking for centre mid options in case Caicedo downs tool for the rest of the season, but we have Moder back soon and Ayari has signed. Colwill is playing well as a left sided centre back, which otherwise we might have been looking for.

I feel like RDZ/Tony had a list of positions we could improve in, but then thought actually do we really need to buy someone given the emergence of certain players and the return to the squad of others. Maybe it just wasnt worth it, certainly not at over inflated January prices..

Cover at left back would have been nice, but players in January are well over priced so it was fine. 2 talented young players to add to the mix on top of a good squad

Given January is a quiet window for us -

  • fantastic signing in Facundo Buonanotte,
  • fantastic first team starts by our young Irish Striker already showing world class potential.
  • CM fielder (Ayari) signed (perhaps USG material for a long loan)
  • And most importantly- we kept Moises despite the serious pressure from Arse to give him up - Bloom bit them in the Arse good and proper.
  • (Oh and we let our top scorer go without it effecting our goal scoring abilities in the slightest and made some money on him)

A good window as January windows go but for me the biggest coup (and most important gap to be filled) would be if Matviyenko signed on the deal sheet by 1.00am! Thereā€™s still a few hours left. Come on Brighton - cough up! šŸ™‚

Ayari is going into the squad to be assessed. A loan is possible but certainly not before summer. Heā€™ll get minutes this season for us.

I havenā€™t seen much of him other than a few promos so donā€™t really know enough about him - the last scouting report I read suggested to me he lacks the level for Brighton at the moment but weā€™ll see. We cant loan someone out to another PL club in the same window we bought him anyway and itā€™s too late to loan him out to USG before the summer now so yes, he will be training with the squad either way until the Summer with maybe a few minutes at the end of a couple of matches if he proves himself enough in training. Iā€™m not that excited yet šŸ¤”

For perspective, let's look at Everton's window.

Sacked their manager.

Sold Anthony Gordon.

Rejected by Sulemana and Onouachu, who signed for Southampton instead.

Rejected by Kevin Schade, who signed for Brentford instead.

Rejected by Danny Ings, who joined West Ham instead.

Rejected by Georginio Rutter, who signed for Leeds instead.

Rejected by Ismaila Sarr, a Championship striker who decided Watford was more appealing.

Rejected by Michy Batshuayi, who'd rather stay in Turkey than play for Everton.

Rejected by Thorgan Hazard, who'd rather move on loan to the Dutch league.

Couldn't agree a fee for Gyƶkeres, a Championship striker.

Wouldn't pay the going rate for some Udinese striker I've not heard of.

Rejected by Conor Gallagher, who preferred to sit on Chelsea's bench.

Thought they'd signed Danjuma, only for him to have an Alex Pritchard-esque loss of satnav connectivity and sign for Spurs instead.

Tonight, ladies and gentlemen, they've been linked with Lucas Joao- aged 29 and a regular substitute for Reading- and Jean Phillipe Mateta, currently occupying the same spot at Crystal Palace. And failed to sign both.

They are left clinging to the hope of signing 33yr old Andre Ayew on a free over the next few days.

Genuinely: is that the worst transfer window of all time? :lolol:

Iā€™m happy, but I just hope RDZ is.

Still got a great group of players. Hopefully Moises can get back to playing at his usual best.

That could possibly be worse than signing Gary Gardner and Chris Oā€™grady..just.

More than filled that spot šŸ™„Mitoma is currently one of the best players in the league. I actually canā€™t think of a better winger.

Would've been nice to get reinforcements at CB & up top but overall I'm very happy with the squad as is. I've found there's no point panicking or whatever as we are in the safest hands we can possibly be, and those in control know a lot more than we do. Let's just hope the gods of injuries are kind to us...

Both young signings seem closer to the first team than most during our Prem stint. I wouldnā€™t be surprised if theyā€™re both on the bench right away and get minutes before the end of the season. Yes thatā€™s not a starting upgrade, but was that realistic in January?

Weā€™ll back D.Z. with 3 starting calibre players in the summer probably replacing a loss or two, or weā€™ll loose him to Juve etc.

My only niggly thought (and I donā€™t even believe this myself, just playing devils advocate a little) so please donā€™t all leap on me, Iā€™m just curious to know if anyone else understands where Iā€™m coming from, is that in the position we are presently in, we should be more attractive than ever. Arguably more so than any other team outside the top six. (Although wages will always play a part ultimately.)

I trust our club infinitely, and Iā€™m sure we got who we wanted, for what we were prepared to sensibly offer, but have we missed an opportunity to spend some of those large bags of cash weā€™ve made selling players recently and grab anyone that would greatly add to our squad at what ā€˜couldā€™ be our best position ever?

A very pessimistic/typical ā€˜teams like BAHAā€™ view Iā€™ll admit. I just canā€™t imagine in my wildest dreams weā€™ll be here again. Awful isnā€™t it! I just canā€™t adjust to our new standing in the league. I just keep pinching myself. Even had a lengthy discussion with CPFC mate tonight who through gritted teeth, for the first time ever, had nothing negative to say about us. Quite the opposite in fact.

A more optimistic view is that come the end of the season weā€™ll be in Europe and more attractive than ever. What player would ever turn that down?

I canā€™t even name a player in mind but I cannot lie, I do dream of that crazy signing one day that makes every other team in the league weep with jealousy and gasp with shock.

Although as I write this, Iā€™m not really sure itā€™ll ever happen. Itā€™s not really how we do things is it. We buy cheap, unknown and then the shock and jealousy comes later, invariably once we sell them on haha

The only slight thing for me is that we have a realistic chance of Europe this season and of winning the FA Cup. Next season it is unlikey we will have Mitoma, Ali Mac or Caceido - we will definitely be weaker because of it, as they are all world class. It really is our big chance this season to achieve something, so it's a shame not to have made one or two additional signings where needed to add some strength to the squad for the coming months. I hope Tony doesn't regret not 'going for it'.

There is no way we will lose all three of those players in one window, canā€™t see that happening at all. Especially if we do somehow qualify for European football.
