I really can't believe the way this thread has gone after the 2nd time we have beaten Liverpool in a couple of weeks (albeit not as completely outclassed as last time)

As you know I really don't like to use phrases to pigeonhole, but can anyone give me an alternative to the ridiculously overused phrase 'bedwetters' :lolol:

I am happy to be classed as a bed wetter if that means I think we need signings this window. Sir Alex Ferguson who knows more about football then even Tony Bloom was very clear you should always strengthen from a position of strength. Likewise look at Arsenal: top of the league and they have signed Trossard, a fullback and maybe a Caicedo. We are on course for our best season ever now is exactly the time to strengthen the squad, almost more so than any other time.

All superlatives used up - De Zerbi is sheer class and he still says we can play better!

My astonishment is reserved for TB and PB who recruited him - what ingenious foresight to know he would be such a brilliant fit for us - when most of us had not even heard of Roberto De Zerbi prior to September 2022.

Hopefully his words aren't an indication of frustration with the board.

When we lost Potter I felt it was unlikely we'd be able to attact someone at a similar level but I think RDZ has been here long enough to show he is an upgrade on Potter and probably the highest calibre of manager we've had in our renaissance era.

He deserves to be backed and I think meeting the valuation of the Ukrainian target is reasonable and perhaps adding another body in final couple of days.

If we lost RDZ I find it highly unlikely we'd get as lucky with his replacement and he must be attracting attention elsewhere.

Correct. Amazing appointment. There were others we could have easily pursued but Tony and Paul seemed clear on this one that RDZ was their first choice.

This is from another interview after todays game, which is pretty much what he said at the Press Conference on Friday:

"[Brighton chairman] Tony Bloom knows very well my opinion. We lost [Leandro] Trossard and if we also lose Caicedo it's a problem for us if we want to fight for Europe," De Zerbi said.

"If we don't lose Caicedo we are ready to fight."

ok so we’re not desperate for a Trossard replacement as we already have some.

Agreed for a CM as we do look a bit light there and reports indicate we’ve at least tried.

January is a horrible window to buy as it’s either players clubs don’t want (why?) or losing players mid season which ain’t ideal and likely inflated prices. I’m sure if there’s deals to be done they will, but with the squad we have now there’s enough in it

And I think that is pretty much what RDZ is saying assuming we keep Caicedo.

Nah in the post game long interview he pretty much said if we let caciedo go we have no ambition and will only go down the table. Pretty logical really.

He seems to think caciedo is going.

Exactly my thoughts. If we signed Zaniolo and Matveynko- we make Europa simples

I'm not sure how anyone can look at our bench today and not think "could do with a bit more depth"...
  • 1 Sánchez
  • 19 Sarmiento
  • 20 Enciso
  • 21 Undav
  • 27 Gilmour
  • 29 van Hecke
  • 34 Veltman
  • 49 Moran
  • 71 Hinshelwood
Goalkeeper aside, there's really only one senior pro there.

It’s only really Moran & Hinsh that shouldn’t be there, replacing Lallana & Colwill. You can argue Undav quality but clearly we don’t need him, the rest looks solid.

Of course depends on the 2 injuries and when they are back
