Watching Van Hecke at Leicester, he did a lot of things right and a small number of things he could improve on. In simple terms right now I would rather play Webster or Colwill. There will come a time when through injuries and suspensions when we will have to rely on inexperienced players for a run of games and they will have to sink or swim. Is Gilmour ready is hard to assess even for RDZ, given the quality and consistency of the players in front of him and like Van Hecke he has shown in patches that he could step up given a run of games.
I agree, and Gilmour may get his chance this season, or may have to wait until space opens up in the squad. The idea that because he's not displacing one of Mac Allister, Caicedo and Lallana, he doesn't have the quality to play for us is incredibly short sighted and not really in line with how we've embedded young talent over the last 3/4 years.

Let's all remember that just 12 months ago, Caicedo returned from a disappointing half a season with Belgium's bottom side.

This guy is more of a long term replacement for Ali Mac rather that Caicedo right?
Looks (from the clips) very much like a deep lying playmaker rather than a super quick, athletic and strong-in-the-tackle destroyer (think Biss or Moises). I’d say more like Wee Billy Gilmour than Mac though.

There was an excellent summation of his game from a Sweden-based journalist on Albion Unlimited this week. Almost all of which I’ve forgotten 😆 but, yes, deep-lying playmaker rings a bell in terms of his attributes.

That Irish, Swedish based journalist was very excitable wasn’t he?! I’ve never known anyone speak so fast, I don’t think he took a breath!

Well, I could have bullshitted it and got myself several million followers on Twitter but not my style 😆

Was really pointing people towards the show on BBC Sounds if they didn’t hear it. Good listen.
Just listened to it - and it's very good. 'A midfield metronome'.

For those who want to listen to it, the Ayari bit begins at 39:30.
