Would leave us just with Veltman as a conventional right back, who's been benched in place of Gross recently. Could only see this happening if we were about to sign a new right back, which looks unlikely at present.

I can understand Lamptey being a bit miffed as he seems to be 3rd choice RB behind Gross and Veltman at the moment, however both of those players could easily be needed to cover shortages in other positions and Lamptey has still been getting on the pitch in every match since the restart after the WC (in fact you have to go back to the Wolves game for the last time he was an unused sub).

Gross slots into Ali Mac's position against Bournemouth because of suspension. Veltman could be needed to cover the injuries at centre back. Colwill is out for a while and Webster is still coming back to full fitness. Concerns over the fitness of Adam Lallana could also see a positional change for Gross.

Lamptey is vital to the squad to allow those other players to be so versatile in where they cover. I'd be very surprised if we let him go.

Exactly. Lamptey has a key role to play in this side albeit it a slightly different one to which he has been accustomed. Tariq was terrific when he came on at Leicester demonstrating his value to the side. I cannot see why would want to sell.

Only reason we would sell is if we felt we could upgrade in that position or sign a player who fitted RDZ’s plans better going forward.

It wouldn’t surprise me if we made a new signing in that position in the sumner.

Or if he is agitating for more playing time, playing time is the reason he came here. If he’s unhappy and has no guarantees we could move him on?

More so if we are trying to buy another player who plays in his position

Can’t wait for this window to close

I reckon he's off.

He's not the same player since his injury, sadly. I suspect the club has recognised this.

He's not getting the desired game time.

Gross is being drafted in as right back ahead of him.

This seems to be one of the more realistic rumours.

I rate Lamptey but I do question whether he's good enough to meet our most recent ambitions, beyond being a useful squad player.

If we get a decent fee for him it would be a great piece of business.

He isn't the player he was when he first broke into the team and I'd imagine that his lack of gametime suggests that he's not training at a good level either. Pascal Gross being picked ahead of him is a very telling sign for me, I thought Lamptey has looked leggy and lost in the games I've seen him this season and it's genuinely upsetting to see. He was amazing in his prime, but that may have passed already. If we had other options at right back, I could see him leave on loan to try and get some gametime and get some fitness back into him.

What's happened to young Offiah? He seemed to be on the fringes a while back - would he possibly come into contention if Lamptey went out on loan to get back up to speed with more regular game time?

Chelsea would take a cut of any fee wouldnt they? Seem to remember them having a sell on clause was a big part of us getting him so cheap.

He wants to play. We know that. He left Chelsea to join us because of it. He's chosen Ghana because of it. No surprise if he moves on. He's clearly a rarity in modern football, just wants to play first team football.
Shame as others had said, he was great last week and can definitely contribute.
