Bloody Worthing!
How are we? Anyone running? Anyone brave enough to run in that gale on Saturday (assuming you could locate a parkrun that wasn't cancelled).
Having had Covid before Xmas and then run a few parkruns over Xmas and the NY, I then got hit by a -'heavy cold' bug.
Dragged myself out to run the Worthing PR with 200+ other nutters. Hard work into that wind and then tumbleweed time. 22:27, another in my series of very ordinary times, but fast enough to edge out the other old gits.

Marathon training week 5. Been quite dispiriting with the weather recently but hey ho, haven't missed a run yet even in those really wet days a couple of weeks back. Out later for 4 freezing cold miles.

Had a trundle round Whistable Parkrun on Saturday on what was meant to be an easy run but as usual the last mile got a bit progressiony. Probably shouldn't have gone ahead as it got quite slippy in the non path bits, but they are quite hardy up there. Nice one to do if you are in the area.

Been out and about, trying to average 20 miles a week – the good news is, my dog physiotherapy has worked, so my running partner is back up to longer runs again!

I swerved it on Saturday, but had a nice eight-miler up to Truleigh Hill and back yesterday, when the weather was lovely. Ticking over at the moment, but will be building up mileage in preparation for Moyleman in March. Hopefully Three Forts in April, too.

I went to Bevendean for some hills practice. The wind made the long uphill similar to the in your face downhill and the directly in your face flat run to the finish. The ground was soggy, swampy mud. 26:22 was probably my slowest full effort 5k and I was beaten by a sausage dog. On a positive I finished second overall on AG to some strong Phoenix, BHAC and Victory AC boys. Enjoyable morning.
Managed a hilly 12.5 miler on Sunday and the Moyleman Training is going well. On Saturday have entered a 5 mile Sussex Masters XC at Coombes Farm, Lancing. A mini Downland Devil running twice up and down the scarp slope of the Downs.

XC that’ll be fun, I absolutely love cross country, just different to normal running. It appears the comeback is going well. Good to see you running strong gaffer 👍

Had a good day out at Coombe Farm on Saturday. After a couple of months running slow and building up mileage decided to test out a X Country race against Sussex's finest old codgers. Ran with the 50+ and 60+ and one 70+. In the 60+ I finished around half way 15th from 27. 6 minutes behind John Lowden.
Despite John Orden not running for us picked up the Silver medal for best first 3 of club finishers. I've always wanted an official Sussex marlets medal!

No disgrace lose to Lowden. Thanks for adding the results. Many familiar names including Andrew Haig who has been competing locally for goodness knows how long.
Well done for getting in the mix!
I made a pointless visit to the LA parkrun which was cancelled pretty late. Our paths will cross again one day!

Well done on great runs at the weekend at the Sussex Masters Champs. Unfortunately, due to an error with Crawley thinking one of their athletes could compete in 2 team age groups, the results were scored incorrectly on the day. As a result, and I am so very sorry, it means you guys actually won the bronze and not the silver. Is there any way you could bring your medals to the next XC league fixture at Stanmer and I will swap them over?

Still just about ticking over (might make 100 miles this month which is ok having lost a week with a chest infection), actually teetering on the edge of a bit more motivation to pick things up. Will see how the next few weeks pan out but any time I feel like this I usually get injured within MINUTES.

Noticed some good runs last week with @Garry Nelson's teacher closing in on his AG PB at Worthing and @big nuts defying creeping age with a fast 20 miler at 7:30 mile pace. Hove Prom had a 99.13% AG from Chris Naylor, she is a tough runner.
I just got on with slow, long hills. It's going well and I'm beginning to strengthen. Hove Park Saturday took me a while to get going with tired legs and I kept dropping off the pace probably mentally preparing for the Sunday 3 hour run. Enjoyed an 800m finish where I found it easy to run at 5:30 mile pace without full effort.
Sunday I showed heart, hot blood and big balls at the top of Truleigh Hill where I was cumulatively knackered from the week but at half way was only an hour and a half into the run.
To be on the safe side will take it easy just walking for a few days to recover before ramping it up again.

Old git news from me was a Parkrun PB at Preston Park, my first PB for four years, at 21:44, taking my AG up to 78.6%. Quite pleased with that as I had thought my PB days were long gone.

Hove Park Saturday. Ninja was returning from a broken leg and he passed pleasantries with parkrunning Tony Bloom. I attacked the course with more effort than usual and was happy with the time despite having a 20 second stoppage to tie a shoelace. Running it home at 5:10 mile pace felt comfortable. 42nd finish and 5th overall AG as all the top runners were saving themselves for Chichester 10k on Sunday.

Sunday was back to Moyleman training. Woke up at 5am and had a nice run up to the Dyke under the light of a near full moon. Swung across to Truleigh Hill for sunrise and WHACK! all strength and energy had left my legs. Running downhill to Shoreham was dreadful. Decided to cut the planned 3:15 hour run of 19 miles and work on keeping going for 3 hours and forgetting distance. Pace was painfully slow (10:40-11:00 minute mile) and head and shoulders were dropping. Crossed the lock gates and limped along Power Station way until Hove Lagoon when the 3 hours was up. Ouch.
On Strava the run looks OK as I'd happily take that as a minimum pace for the Moyleman. No injuries just a bit of rest and recovery needed for the old body and to block all negative thoughts from that torture.

Must've been something about yesterday, because I had a shocker too. Maybe because of your runs, I've told myself I need to up the mileage so had 10/11 in mind, but I was struggling after just a few miles. Decided to also cut it short and return another day!

On NSC for over two decades...
No football training this weekend due to half term so I took a trot around Guildford parkrun. Finished in 21:35 with an AG of 66.72%, which I think is a season's best.

I've been trying to get my motivation going for running as I have that half marathon looming in the near future, but I'm definitely struggling mentally to do all the things I need to do to be ready. I did manage to get round 13-odd miles last weekend, so I know I can do the distance, which is about the only positive I've found! 😂

Had cracking fun at the Keswick ParkRun last weekend. A straight out and back course following the old railway line between Keswick and Threlkeld. Really good surface, as it was lovingly restored after Storm Desmond. Gentle incline up for the first half, which makes for a very satisfying descent on the run in. The path crosses the river three times, offering great views of the fells on either side.

Ended in up in a satisfying ding dong with my wife and her running buddy. I came in last of the three but only 20 seconds covered us and we all posted our best times in a fair old while.

That said, my times are pretty poor since I returned from Kenya and the ForRangers Ultra. I've kind of got myself used to the metronomic plod required to do the job and am finding picking up the pace tough. Just seven weeks tomorrow until Brighton Marathon day so enjoying long days of mileage along the Basingstoke Canal, Rivers Wey and Thames.
