Amusing little exchange on the plight of Everton on 5Live's Monday Night Club a few minutes ago between Dominic King (Mail football journalist) and regulars Chris Sutton and Rory Smith...

Dominic King: When you go to Goodison Park, it’s a place where proper football is played.​

Is that the use of "proper" as a synonym for "outdated"?

When you go to Goodison Park, it’s a place where proper football is played.

Scratching my head as to wtf he even means by that. I guess, something to do with history (a long long time ago) and Everton being a massive club and whatever, but what exactly does he mean? Or did he miss out the 'shit' between 'proper' and 'football'?
