I watch a lot of football. A LOT.

Over the years I've seen teams starting to 'click'. I saw Bayern in 2012 play incredible football then drop off a bit (they finished 2nd) in the BL but I saw what kind of play they were capable of. They won the treble the next year.

I saw Man City the first year with Pep, they finished 3rd.. but the last 5 or so games of the season I saw the 'click', I knew the next year they would be incredible. Then they had a 100 points season. I saw Napoli at the start of last season playing incredible football, some of the best of Europe, then they dropped off, I knew the following year they would be incredible. I saw the same with Arsenal around Christmas time last year, thinking they would win the league within two seasons.

I see the same with this Brighton team, some of the football you have played recently is as good as any in world football right now. Consistency will be lacking, and you wont always hit that level. But if you can keep your main players, another year of experience. I think you could challenge for the TITLE next season.

Liverpool and Chelsea are in transition, Spurs aren't ever real contenders. Man City are burning out too and Pep will likely leave very soon. Arsenal vs Brighton could be #1 and #2 in 2024.

Ha ha ha,

Settle down fella. Things are going well for us at the minute but we all know not to take things for granted. The distance between finishing 9th and winning the league is immense. Even if we finish 5th - 7th the next step is monumental.

Keep a lid on it and let's not get carried away.

30-40 years ago, absolutely. We’d have been able to keep most of our best talent and would definitely have been in with a title shout. Just not possible nowadays as the big 6 will protect their position by cherry-picking our strongest players, whether or not they really need them. After Leicester, the super-rich decided it must never happen again. Top 4… not impossible, but almost.

I appreciate the sentiment. But you don't get anywhere near the title with our squad. Nowhere near.

We'll finish between 6th and 10th both seasons and it will still be a great achievement.

We could win...... something.

A crucial part of that is keeping this squad together and that is going to be very difficult.

A very generous assessment by the OP though!

At the end of my tether
True Blue is right in his post above. Back in the day, when clubs like Derby, Nottingham Forest and Villa won the league, and in Europe! It was certainly possible.... Not now. Today the big money men fuelled by petro $ and Yankee money have got it sewn up. You can’t really blame the players for taking the money and glory in their short and uncertain career.
Let’s enjoy what we have while it lasts.
