Veltman and Gross are ahead of him. He needs to be playing. Makes sense to me. Let's be honest, if Gross is picked against Liverpool he could start at RB against anyone.
RDZ likes a playmaker/intelligent passer at RB with a storming winger-like player at LB. We don’t have a left footed version of Groß or Veltman for LB so he can’t switch the balance if the team to benefit Lamptey at the moment. Maybe the guy from Shakhtar would change that but Tariq needs minutes right now, not bench warming.

A very strange rumour that is so out there I’d be surprised if there wasn’t some truth in it
It is rumoured I have the ear of Rishi Sunak.

(I won it in a bare knuckle fight round the back of some garages in Crawley. Fact.)

Traore could attach Lamps to his chest, like Mini Me.
They could also become the fastest pantomime horse in the world.

Totally get your point, but we do have that player, Solly March (and arguably Colwill)

Funny enough in a recent interview I recall Tariq saying he wants more game time so maybe there is something in this story

Really don't understand this if true, Tariq is one of the more experienced bench players if changes are required. Hopefully means incoming

TBH getting safe then loaning players out to improve all the bottom teams but Palace would be one hell of a power move.
This is an interesting take.

I think we should remember that TB has a master plan and that involves hitting different milestones at the right time. As fans, we get all excited and see the promised land of top 4 and end up shooting too early (pardon the phrase.)

Tony and the team are probably more circumspect and measured. For them it’s two steps forward and one back. Could well be that Lamps is not in the long term picture, so getting someone else to pay his wage while looking at new names coming through (or less likely, straight in) might just be right.

Or this could all be bollox.

Do you think he would have played there had Nunez been playing? That would of been risky.
Yeah I've been thinking about that. I think yes. I think that RDZ might've felt Tariq didn't quite do what was needed against Arsenal. And even though on paper Its terrifying to imagine Gross marking Nunez I suspect RDZ cares more about what we do with the ball rather than without. IE Gross has the intelligence to do more with the ball than Lamptey and even though he might get skinned for pace, his use of the ball and general football intelligence makes it worth the risk.

But hindsight is a wonderful thing. Gross against Liverpool good, Lamptey against Arsenal not so good. Much easier to say after the results.
What RDZ clearly wants is a) the players do what he asks but b) them also to use their brain on the pitch. And I think Lamptey (through not fault of his own) is probably finding the transition quite tough. When you're the fastest person in world football you don't need to use your head, you kick the ball and run. That was his entire footballing life up until the injury.

My ITK says a bust up has occurred. RDZ not involved and very angry because he rates Lamptey as #2 to Veltman (who was rotated with Groß last week for tactical reasons).

Now who the bust up is between I have no idea, but time will tell if it is related to today’s selection.

In short, this has legs.

More: Lamptey promised more minutes, but not being given them due to league form. Told he will play in cup and to be ready for sub minutes - refused to play.

Gist is “came here for minutes, not long term bench”

How soon is now?
I thought it was odd that we had 2 right backs on the bench against Liverpool and Gross at RB. Then I considered that RDZ wanted to be able to play, Gross, Lallana, Caicedo and Mac Allister, so he had to fit Gross in somewhere. The reason being, that Lallana will not manage 90 mins, he may not even last 5… See how it goes, and then bring Veltman or Lamptey on at 60 mins is Lallana has lasted that long. I hope Tariq stays, but he is a squad player not a first 11(yet)
