I think that's bollocks. In football, when you know you have a good person keep them around the club. I think he'll soon progress up the age groups.
Young footballers face all sorts of pitfalls and the more positive role models you have around the better. Imagine being a youngster trying to make your way in the game and you've got someone with that infectious positivity, that enthusiasm. A national captain and scorer of big PL goals. You'd run through walls for him and whatever outside temptations there are you would not want to let him down.

Not often you get the chance to develop a 24 year old former pro/international into coaching staff.
He's obviously a likeable, charismatic bloke... the club has a real chance to develop him into a top tier coach here.
Given the horrible circumstances that lead to this, this cloud has a silver lining for all... lots of positives for him, for the club and for us.
Him and Calde both being key staff in the academy is brilliant…….is Sidwell still coaching as well ?

I’ve read the article.
It says that his ICD has fired giving his heart an electric shock to restore it to normal rhythm.
This isn’t unusual in cases of heart arrhythmias, it’s not a heart attack, but, if not shocked back into rhythm will lead to a cardiac arrest.
I’ve had over 60 shocks myself, sometimes as many as 3 in one night, so, hopefully he’ll be okay.

Yeah I read that….I guess though the timing of the incidents can be an issue (ie whilst driving isn’t good) ?

I don't quite follow, apologies if it's me being a thick but Mwepu's ICD did it's job and shocked him back into a normal state?
Did he have more complications after?

It would depend what his diagnosis was of his original problem.
A shock from an ICD is an unpleasant experience, but, it does tend to do the job it’s there for. The severity of the shock can vary from being like a kick from a horse( it is painless though) to really not noticing. I have actually slept through a couple.
I have never had one while driving tho, that’s quite a scary thought.

Surprised you're actually allowed to drive tbh with the risk of such a shock. I have a friend who suffers from epilepsy and he can only drive if he's not had a seizure in a couple of years.
Do hope he's ok and seems to rule out any possibility of him returning. I had a faint hope that he could do a Eriksen and carry on playing.

Ex-Brighton midfielder Enock Mwepu is in hospital in Zambia after being taken ill, his former club says.

I’ve been reading a lot of threads mentioning how much inbound cash we have received in the last few seasons and it got me thinking about Enock.
Genuine question… with all players insured these days, would the club have received a lump sum insurance payout when this poor chap had to retire? we did after all have to pay a decent fee for him
