Anyone else moved onto the stage of feeling excited about who we might sign to replace him? I reckon RDZ would prefer someone quicker than Trossard up there.
Yep. I'm right there. I do think we need to get a relatively experience do a job now player in. I'm hoping we get the attacking equivalent of the Cucu / Perv switcheroo.

My thoughts.

I can definitely see a situation where Tony is prepared to hold onto a player not playing while he loses value. Remember, every member of the squad will be looking at this to see what the clubs resolve is like.

It's far from certain Leo never plays for us again. It's possible a Villa type club comes in for him late in the window, but I reckon they'll be looking at their other options first, meaning it would likely be quite late in the window.

But it's just as likely there's no bid, temp or perm, that we're willing to entertain. In that circumstance, Leo has not yet crossed any uncross-able lines, but could find there's an almighty battle for a place with younger players stepping in and performing up front.
Holding on to a player who wanted to go was precisely what Southampton did with Virgil Van Dijk. He was longish term injured as well at the time from what I remember. I wouldn’t be at all surprised to see him going nowhere this window.

Well this is sad isn't it.

Trossard has been brilliant for us. At the age of 28 it doesn't surprise me that he wants a move, it's probably his last chance of being wanted by UCL football teams.

I find the whole forcing a transfer thing very odd. It's not like Brighton don't consider offers and they can't make clubs bid. It seems like there is a club bidding, but the price is too low.

But releasing statements to media doesn't reflect well on the player and could affect whether other clubs want him. Why take the guy who is going to cause loads of problems?

I get that the statement is in reaction to RDZ comments - I'm not sure that the club will be particularly happy with those either as it makes a price lower.

In general I agree with what RDZ is doing though - work your f***ing bollocks off lads, high intensity at all times... or get out.
I understand him wanting a CL move too. Which is all the more odd. Because all he had to do was wait out another few months, playfully in a good team that's in form and he would have waltzed out to a CL club in the summer with applause ringing in his ears. All he had to do was not be a dickhead for 5 months. It seems he couldn't manage it.

Part of me also wonders whether his heads gone at the emergence of Mitoma and Ferguson.

Just what was needed. Would think PB put that together for him.
Shouldn't think so. Presumably this is from the coach's sit-down with the written press after the televised press conference. I assume that's how it works with Albion. Usually, managers speak to the TV/radio. The newspaper journalists sit in on that. Then the boss has separate sessions with the daily papers and the Sunday papers.

I think the timing of the press conference left De Zerbi no option but to tell it as it is. Trossard was already on his way to Belgium. The hacks in the room would have been tipped off.

The press release from his agent was awful, very amateurish.

Trossard has always looked like his not a "team" player. It's obvious De Zerbi is a taskmaster and those that don't buy in are out. As today's statement says it's up to Trossard.

Call me old fashioned, but if you sign a contract, you should stick to it, and not get your agent to offer you around for a better contract elsewhere.

How do you think we sign players ? We spent at least a year courting Alexis MacAllister

Bloom sanctions decisions but the decisions are made by other people.

People need to stop assuming that bloom uses his poker playing skills to his advantage on every transfer matter. The weird pedestal that people have created for him is false unless you think losing player of the season and entire coaching team was blooms plan all along.
Maybe not the plan, but in being dealt what looked like a shit hand, the club couldn't have played it better and came out with £80M of Chelsea's money, Pervis Estupinan and Roberto De Zerbi, even the Colwill loan that I was not too impressed with has turned out to have been very useful too.
Ultimately, it is Bloom, even if it is only that he hires the guys that make the good decisions, but where a valuable asset to the club, and tens of millions of pounds is involved, I think TB is very much involved, I f***ing would be if it was my money.

Only he and the club know i suppose. But the psychology is so weird.

Football has moved on from 10 years ago, and Brighton have been very open about realising publicly where they are in the food chain.

There must have been approaches which have been knocked back i suppose.

A lot of speculation around LT but he's courted controversy from the word go with comments from his agent like 'he's using Albion as a stepping stone to bigger clubs'. I don't have a problem with that however I think there are ways of doing it without alienating yourself from the club and fans. I'm not sure Tross hasn't peaked a bit later than he hoped (in his contract and career). Put simply the club aren't just going to give him away, it's business sense and I'm happy without knowing the full details to believe Tony and Paul are standing firm on this. I'd like to see him playing positively until he inevitably leaves however, I don't want to see the likes of clubs such as money bags Newcastle picking him up for nothing. As an aside I've never warmed to Tross much as he's always appeared to think he was better than Brighton, just a feeling on that without too much tangible evidence.

I have a bit of a problem with that when it happens immediately. In return for their £60,000 a week, players should at least show a bit of respect for the club they've joined. Overall, no problem with Leo though. He's been a fine player for us on his day. Has the talent to put in much better performances week-in, week-out. An attacking team at the Amex would seem to be the perfect place to fulfil his potential rather than the much more pressured environment of a richer club but I suppose he wants his pay-day. I expect a desire for European football will be the argument - which could be possible here next season, if everyone knuckles down and there aren't any bellends sulking because they think they're better than the rest.

I have no issue with Tross going now, if the money's ok.
I suspect the issue is that the agent isn't able to convince Spurs/Atleti to come up with a decent enough offer.

Trying to force Tony to accept a lowball offer, is never going to work.
Player with poor attitude and not giving his all at training joins atleti? Not sure that's a good fit

Cannot believe Tross and his agent have done this. As has been said, he has contributed big time, he could have just waited for the offers in Jan and, as necessary, the summer, then left a hero. Instead, he looks a d1ck and potential suitors will be put off by his/ his agent’s moronic behaviour.

Love this rather hopeful (I thought) quote from RDZ though - and what some of us have been saying about the media and chat forums having a field day and giving it more significance because of the window, rings true and you can totally see RDZ having an emotional coaching style even by watching him in the dugout.

“De Zerbi said "problems" such as that currently involving Trossard were fairly commonplace.

He added: "I think we're giving too much importance to something that is normally happening in the dressing rooms of every club in the world.

"I was a player and a lot of times I had these kinds of problems and maybe through this happening the relationship later on will be much stronger, but I'm working in this way.”
He also said

"“My office is, was and will be open for all players and for all people.”

So I'm going to pop down on Monday and have a chat.

I suppose the emergence of those two is the threat to his big summer move. Mitoma is a more dangerous left winger. Ferguson is a raw but 'proper' front man with huge potential. Lallana is better in the hole. Mac Allister too. Gross can play there. Leo may well have ended up a bit part player for the rest of the campaign, particularly if he's not going to put the effort in. Hence, the desperation to get out now.

Not sure what to think here, but, I'm defo on RDZ side. I do not like players who throw tantrums when it doesn't go their way. Shame, I really liked Trossard. We are absolutely fine without him though, weaker yes, but fine. Buzzing to see the new Argie. If he goes to Chelsea, he will get dogs abuse, and rightly so.

If any player started acting like a petulant child, I'd be in the f*** off camp.

Trossard doesn't strike me as someone who would cope well with the crowd constantly at him.

Until now I believe we have been tolerant of LT's wide disparity in performance in the knowledge that he will, by his skill, win enough games to keep us out of relegation trouble. Things have changed a little bit now in that we are increasingly seeing ourselves as a middle of the table side looking to advance higher. Thus we are being less indulgent towards LT at a time when his agent is becoming more active in actions he believes are to LT's financial best interest.

I see a problem for LT is that he is wildly inconsistent and at a top 6 club he would not be able to keep his place performing that way. He might be good enough for Spurs to buy him but as Biss has found he will meet new challenges. For one thing he is not going to get Harry Kane doing the running for him. He is going to need to get on his bike there or get hooked early doors there. He would certainly learn that the 'respect' to which he and his agent refers needs to work both ways. You need to give it to receive it. Mr Z has shown he will tolerate players acting for themselves rather than the team and it is a refreshing approach, one to be welcomed.

After he went home very early with splinters in his arse from the World Cup, maybe he is also jealous of World Cup winner Mac Allister.
