I think it is a It great song and to me its influenced by his personal and family life. Bringing up Ari Ups three kids with Nora after Ari Up died and and then having to become Nora's full time carer after she developed Alzheimer's disease. I hope he gets a lot of publicity about the disease and all the people left caring for people with it and how it affects both people, the ill and the carer.

It's so bad, it would lose out to a norwegian entry that had been thrown out for being atrocious!
Should play it over the English channel....that would stop some of the desperate souls from venturing to find a better life in the UK!

The best chance the UK has of winning Eurovision 2023 is if we let Sam Ryder sing it. Everybody knows ours was the best song last year and Ukraine got the sympathy vote - rightly - so we're owed one here.

Some rather odd comments in this thread. Lydon was never a political campaigner let alone political leader. I would imagine he might raise an eyebrow at the stupid fools who stand in line to attack him over his peculiar views. I certainly don't bracket him with nasty old pillocks such as Morrissey and bullies like Clarkson, let alone paedophiles like Glitter and Harris.
He doesn't always (or indeed often) know all (or indeed sufficient) of the facts, and deals with many issues in an instinctive way. He never apologises because whatever he felt or thought at the time was honest (in his view). I found him an inspiration because of this when I was young, albeit I soon realized the need to be better informed was important, and it's not enough to be right or wrong (and merely certain).
These days I don't find him very interesting. The last release of his I bought was Metal Box. The need to have rebel voices, raw and unedited, who call out the establishment is long gone - information is accessible now, and only people without the scope to create impact themselves rely on the Mail, Sun (or indeed Mirror) or rabble rousers for instructions on how and what to think.
But back in the 70s.....remember, this is only a few years after Bowie, when interviewed about how he saw his future, said 'I expect I'll go into cabaret'. And so 'there's no future in England's dreaming' was quite something.
I'm sorry if some liberals and lefties are now outraged by Lydon's wayward pontification and apparent controversialism. I'm sure he'd find it funny that anyone actually cares about what he thinks.
Meanwhile the song is quite touching if you know the context. Not my taste, however. Whatever.
