what I loved about his goal that even tho he was 2 yards ahead of of a defender he still couldn't beat gross to the ball

What I loved about the goal aside from the stunning left footed technique to pop it over the keeper was the pace of the ball. Just slow enough to give the chasing defenders hope but just enough pace to get over the line ahead of them. Such a joy to see them chasing after that lost cause in the replay.

Very impressive how quickly he understands the shape of their "back line" and that they are both thick and lazy so that there's a decent chance they might f*** up like that.

But still... how many players make a run like that when up 3-0?

Arguably, our greatest (not best) Premier League signing of all time has not grabbed the headlines tonight but his left footed, dinked finish was simply sublime. What a fantastic footballer and servant to the club he is.
Him outpacing the Everton defence to score this goal was some feat as well.

Yes he got the goal which was superbly taken. But his overall link up with Caicedo was excellent.

They totally dominated the middle of the park. He was linking those quickly RDZball passes like nobody's business, making us purr.

I have told this story before but I literally sat next to him on a flight back to Berlin a few years ago, morning after we lost to Burnley. He was such a nice guy and chatted to me for ages. He told me about his upbringing, his time at the DFB academy, his schooling, his father who at that time came over for all his home games and also asked me a lot of questions about my life, Brighton, Berlin etc He even helped with my German homework I was doing on the plane. He really is a decent, level headed, all round, nice guy as well as a brilliant footballer.

Yes, and he gambled they would f*CK it up, almost as if he KNEW they would f*CK it up 😂. Brilliant anticipation from Gross.

Let’s remind ourselves that Groß is only 31. With a game based around ‘brains & technique’ rather than speed (which he has never had), he could play at this level for a good few years. His fitness and stamina has always been excellent too and shows no sign of deteriorating.

He may well still be a central figure for us in 2027. We should make sure that we are his last club.
