As I understand it they bought the tickets at Tier 1 level so at that point they wouldn't have known whether it was going to be oversubscribed or not!!
I bet this is EXACTLY what happened, hence why he doesn’t feel able to pass the punishment on to his son.
If you weren’t trusted, you wouldn’t have the tickets, you’d have an email telling you to collect them from the Stalag PB enclosure

I did wonder the point of making this public via his tweet, maybe he thought there’d be a public outcry and he’d be allowed back in with a slapped wrist?

I've just gone back and read the original tweet because I thought I had missed something but it appears they were all aware of the rules they signed up to.
If my kids had done that I would have told them they were stupid sods and to take the punishment on the chin and learn from it. (And probably buy me lunch/dinner for taking the piss under my name and getting me involved).
But this gentleman (maybe a better father than me) has decided that he wants to take the responsibility for what they have done and decided to take the punishment on himself
Can someone point out what I've missed ?

I believe the punishment was served on him as it was his ticket that was used by someone else, although he didn't know about any of this until after the event due to the way F&F ticket purchases work.
It sounds like the club acknowledged this - presumably, they can see the details of the ticket purchase transaction - and gave him the option to pass the punishment to his son, but he's decided he doesn't want to do that. I guess some Dads would hand it on: "you've been a bit silly here, you need to deal with the repercussions and learn from it" and others will choose to do as he has.

You were the one casting aspersions on someone, and I just wanted to say that my view differs. If you look at the chap's numerous responses to people who have interacted with him, the story is all there I think, and it seems he just decided to take one for the team, essentially, and allow his son's to continue to attend games.
My discussion with him has led to think he's a decent chap that I'm inclined to believe, but there's a chance I've been hoodwinked of course.

This bloke could be a decent chap and still knew about this in advance, the two aren't mutually exclusive, it's not the misdemeanour of the century.
Anyway, the chap seems to be taking it all very amicably, whilst making himself somewhat of a public martyr. Few things don't add up to me, but I'm naturally a bit of a sceptic.
