I've followed the recent gambling thread with interest. As a newbie around these parts, you're probably unaware of my gambling past, and betting thousands of pounds on random horse races to try and make up past losses. Or popping thousands of pounds down on red or black in a casino at the end of a boozy night out. Bad stuff when in a bad place.
NSC has no arrangement nor contractual link to any betting company. All banner ads on NSC are provided through a single ad platform who supply ads on a per user per page basis.
That means the ads any NSCer sees on the sire are likely, although not guaranteed, to be provided based on the known background of that NSCer, which will draw strongly upon their past browsing activities. As such everyone will receive different ads based on a wide range of variables. I've never been served a gambling ad on NSC.
Putting 2 and 2 together, I'm guessing you've had one/some bookie ads on here and thought you'd slyly have a pop at me. If you have, I've not chosen them to be there, and NSC will not profit vastly if you go on to join a bookie and lose £1m over the next year or two.
NSC earns, on average, 1/5th of one penny for each page you view on the site. Neither NSC, nor me, are getting rich on any advert that has been served to you.

Well, before I go on hiatus then, a final piece of advice: there was no betting ads on the old NSC. I don't know if you've changed ad provider.
But if you are using one that is displaying betting ads - you might as well do it yourself instead. For reals. I wouldn't mind if you made some pennies out of NSC and if these questionable ads are going to be there anyway, it would be sensible if you had those affiliate links linked to your account rather than to the third-party service. Not sure if it is possible to adjust so that different ads are still shown for different visitors depending on behaviour while running it yourself... but like I said, much preferable if you get the real profits rather than some scummy third party service.

Nope. Same ad provider today that has been supplying 100% of ads to NSC for the last 3-4 years.
When you view a page on NSC an auction happens in a micro-second to determine what ads you see. Whoever deems your eyeballs most valuable gets to show you their ad.
I’ve never seen a single gambling advert on the site and I use the same site template with the same ad units as everyone else.
I’m well aware of how much NSC could earn if I carpet-bombed the site in affiliated gambling links. I’m not stupid. But I never have taken that route.

Wrong, there doesn't need to be any criteria met other than for those in charge to believe in it. As long as the CCP feel they are still the spirit of Mao then no matter what other deviations happen they still think they are Communists. No Wikipedia meaning will alter that fact.
Even in an extreme right Nazi Germany the epitome of a fascist state they held incredibly by modern standards progressive views on championimg renewable energy, and institutionalized organic farming and land use planning on a level unmatched by any nation past or present.

Joking aside (and apologies for being so far off-topic I’ll need a map to get back) but have you considered setting up a (completely optional) Patreon for NSC?
I don’t know the details of what’s involved, and I couldn’t afford to bung more than a quid your way each month, but I’d be happy to pay that. Appreciate if I’m the only person thinking this way it’s a non-starter, but the idea might deserve a thread/poll of its own. Perhaps for a suitably sized monthly donation those who wished could view ad-free?
