It's a good plan, but the local council can't afford to fill the diggers with fuel, so digging the valley out has been put back until after the next election.

As for how, why and when, such questions are just noise to our leaders, forward-thinkers and paradigm-shifters. Tory MPs operate on a higher plane.

I reckon one of them comes up with these wizard ideas in closed meetings, and they all slap each other on the back in a show of appreciation before it is introduced to a wider audience, at which point, more worldly people ask 'WTF?', and produce a long list of hitherto unforeseen pitfalls. But then it's too late. They've already announced it and have to run with it, steadfastly defending it until it falls apart.

See pork markets. Nice trip to Beijing though.
See Rwanda. 120 million of taxpayers' money helping corruption in East Africa, instead of the new record 504,000 immigration figure.
See Liz Truss. 30 billion of taxpayers money up the creek, plus 115k pa for life for an ex-PM who lasted a full 7 weeks of torture. That's proper value for money, that is.
See Brexit. But we don't want to talk about that. Let's move on.
Well traditionally all Governments of the last century have had thousands of highly paid, highly skilled experts on every imaginable area working in the Civil service who can advise them on what the implications would be with any of the things they want to do.

Unfortunately as you know, this lot then decided 'they had had enough of experts' around 2016, haven't looked back since and now, purely coincidentally I'm sure, we are up shit creek without a paddle. If only someone had said at the time

Indeed.

When you hear that Liz Truss and Kwasi didn't run their mini-budget past either the OBR or the Bank of England, you get a sense of the scale of the arrogance - and the danger of it - to the nation. I would like to think that the disaster of her tenure has changed a few minds, if not hers. Even after she had failed so spectacularly, she said she had gone 'too far, too fast'. In other words, she still thought her policies were right, but that the country, the markets and the experts were all wrong. Extraordinary.

it's funny how the gammons aren't that bothered about the epic waste you mention but get furious about refugees in hotels at taxpayers expense. apparantly its cheaper to put a refugee up in the ritz than send them to Rwanda

So what you're saying in a very roundabout way is that, there are no Brexit benefits, and none possible in the future, but you're still committed to the theory of it, is that right shteve?

More self imposed economic sanctions.

Have we started checking any imports at Dover yet or is Brexit still only in one direction? I've lost track

Have we reached the point we're allowed to say Brexit is a disaster, or is it still the fault of Covid / Putin's War?

Couple more years of it being all COVID / Putin's fault.
Then, if we're lucky, it'll be because of something the new Labour government has done.
