That is a very interesting response. The Gibraltarians are consistently and passionately against being forced to be a part of Spain and positively want to remain tied to the United Kingdom. Maybe years of sieges, attacks across several wars, closed borders for 16 years up until 1985, and general daily ongoing (passive) aggressive behaviour from Madrid towards their neighbours across political, sporting and cultural spheres has influenced that a tad. But we’ll go with your idea of forcing them to be part of Spain against their wishes shall we? In other news, Ukraine will soon revert to being part of the new Soviet Union, its for their own good, allegedly….

No, I’m highlighting that Spain is aggressively against the status of Gibraltar, despite its peoples wishes, but does not apply that same logic to Ceuta and Melilla, which is hypocritical.
