Why shred only ten grand when you can burn a million?

I watched Who Killed The KLF a few weeks ago.
At least one of them said he really regretted burning the money, for the entirely prosaic reason that he could really have done with having it.
Turns out burning £1m and then deleting your entire back catalogue isn't a sound financial strategy.

The zero cost of it also makes it easier to ignore than if you block a road protesting environmental destruction or your club getting f***ed over by some greedy ****s selling it to property developers.

Its the perfect modern-day protest: 1. generates 15 minutes of fame for this bloke 2. objective has zero impact (Beckham is not a Qatarian law maker), 3. causes inconvenience for no-one so everyone (especially David Beckham) can just ignore it.

The outcome of this move: nothing, aside for this bloke getting a few pats on his back and a couple of good-will gigs that'll make him earn back the money he may or may not put in the shredder.
Some of us were put on this earth to get attention by setting ourselves on fire, some of us were put down to make viral videos.
To be fair, it's not like Lycett needs the attention. And shredding money always gains a disproportionate amount of publicity because it attacks the conceit at the basis of our whole society that money is the main objective in life.
Waste half an hour of somebody's commute and you annoy them. Challenge why they're making the commute in the first place and they might lose the will to live.
Wait, what are we trying to achieve again? :lolol:

As we saw with Neville's embarrassing takedown by Hislop on HIGNFY, he really didn't give a shit. He was quite happy to take the stick so long as he got paid his Qatari blood money. Why should Beckham be any different. A right pair of greedy f*ckers with no moral compass.

And the irony on R4 this morning didn't escape me. Just before a piece about whether Qatar should have been awarded the WC due to their appalling human rights record and their treatment of members of the LGBT+ community was an "advert" for the WC telling us where we could watch / listen to it on the BBC!!

JL is a twat. Why waste £10k when he could give it to an appropriate charity and challenge Beckham to do likewise.
I’ve always found Beckham to extremely self centred, taking great care to promote himself to the full. How many photos did he bomb into when he was playing? anything he does is for self promotion or money. He’s so good at it he got himself a knighthood. Yes, he queued up to see the Queen laying in state - so did millions of others who didn’t get the same level of praise. He was a good player too - once upon a time.

Just read that Virgin abandoned its gender neutral uniform policy for staff on board England team's flight to Qatar for fear of upsetting Qatari sensitivites. If I had been CEO of Virgin I would have wrapped the plane in a rainbow. Bugger the Qataris.

The only good thing to have come out of this is that the Qatari attempt at sportswashing has failed. Miserably.

Nope its a massive success.

They don't want us to like them, they want us to see them as a powerful entity, normalising their presence and influence on the world stage.

No idea what the show was, but I turned on BT the other day and there was a talk show where they were praising Dua Lipa for turning down the chance to perform at the World Cup.

A minute later they let their viewers know that the next episode was going to be live from Doha :lolol:

Rather surprised at the negative comments about Joe Lycett. He is making a point about Beckham's involvement that has now probably made even those who weren't aware of the issues take at least a little interest. He is fairly well known for political stunts and documentaries drawing attention to wrong-doings, hypocrisies, and so on.

Joe Lycett stands up to the people those far more powerful and privileged than him should have done so long before he had to

I find him deeply unfunny.
His star has peaked in my view, he’s now just irritating but the lefty media liberals can’t get enough of him.

What a total prat Lycett is. The posh rage he shows in his little video is pathetic, what difference does he think it's going to make for him to shred 10k? Who empowers him to speak for anyone other than himself? If he's got 10k to shred, he can do a little bit more to help the groups or people he wants to speak for. A totally empty threat and just attention seeking. It's easy to throw stones at others but what's he doing to make things better for anyone?
I like Joe Lycett. His gentle mocking style has been able to break through on a number of no go topics for the media, in areas where more forceful characters have failed. Comes across to me as intelligent, witty and someone who doesn't take himself too seriously.
