I had a mate who got his worst sporting injury from table tennis. Whilst retrieving the ball from under the table, he got a splinter in his finger that went septic and put him in hospital for a week with blood poisoning.

Oh god, it hurts me to even read about it. In fact, dangers await us in any action and sport. I hope your friend is now completely healthy and continues to play table tennis if he really likes it

Stoolball. Last game I played, I had to bowl the entire innings for the first time in many years. My last over was so slow, I was nearly taken out by the ball coming back at me at breakneck speed. I was lucky. The non striker not so much. Claret everywhere. He recovered for a while but as they were going out to field, he passed out. Trip to A&E and game abandoned.

I retired gracefully.

Obviously very dangerous if you think about it but a fact ignored by many. Horse riding of any kind.
Amazing how many otherwise over protective mothers are happy for their girls to go horse riding, but if you suggested a motorbike (almost exact same risk level) they'd go absolutely spare at you for the recklessness.

When applying for life insurance, I was asked if I did any dangerous pastimes, I replied yes I go gliding, the man looked through his list. No thats quite safe. I also said I played golf, cue sharp intake of breath. Evidently quite dangerous.
When I was diving I applied for travel insurance. When I put down recreational diving the quote doubled, when I ticked the "mixed gas" box it doubled again.

I personally know two people who have died scuba diving, both very experienced with several hundred dives.

I'll wager the Isle of Man TT races must be somewhere on the leader board.
Death and/or serious injury occurs every year and has done since it's inception - I think more folk die on the IOM in motorcycle related incidents than in Boxing and MMA combined.
