As the domestic season comes to an end, and most footballers' thoughts turn to Vegas or golf, a select few of the Albion squad have further business to attend to. With a number of our recent senior and age-group Internationals (Hughes, McCourt, Maksimenko, Mackail-Smith, Fenelon, Agustien!) leaving the club this summer, this list is shorter than recent ones. (Technically, all contracts expire June 30th, so four of the above ARE Albion players on duty - I'm choosing not to include ...

With Blackburn having mercifully put this wretched Albion season out of its misery midweek, by ensuring that Millwall can no longer drag us down, the visit of Watford in the early afternoon sunshine, was always destined to be a relaxed affair.

The game turned out to be a 90 minute demonstration of everything this seaon has been all about - the Albion largely matching the division's top team for long periods, without having the guile, imagination or requisite skills to make their share of possession count, before gifting the decisive goal

It’s hard to know what to say after a game like this one. Albion, on the back of a turgid goalless spell, travelled to serial home defeatists Wigan, for a game that could have seen us secure safety after a few weeks of staggering pathetically towards the imaginary dotted line. The Albion travelled, of course, bereft of playmaker Joao Teixeira, who will surely regret missing a golden opportunity to pick up a few broken leg tips from cuddly Lancastrian misogynist

For goodness sake. Will it never end? Will this eternal, infernal, miserable season never be put out of its (our) misery?

This was supposed to be the night when any lingering fears of a ridculous sleep-walk into relegation, were put aside. But no, the half-awake shamble continues - this non-event, coupled with Millwall's win elsewhere keeping their heads above water for another game at least.

When Chris Hughton was appointed, in the wake of the Sami debacle, he was widely welcomed, as a 'safe pair of hands'.

I wrote after Friday's U21 game, that Jake Forster-Caskey was a 'central cog' in England's midfield. He continued in the same vein last night, performing his usual tidy role, from the start, and helping Gareth Southgate's Young Lions to a memorable 3-2 over European championship favourites Germany. ...

On Friday night, Jake Forster-Caskey put in a solid shift for England U21s, as they secured a hard-fought 1-0 over the Czech Republic, in Prague. Despite a less than universal appreciation of his talents amongst the Albion fan-base, Forster-Caskey is a central cog in Gareth Southgate's Young Lions side - his job to retain and recycle possession at the base of the midfield, allowing the likes of Ward Prowse, hughes and Carroll to express themselves.

A big challenge awaits the side tonight, in Middlesbrough, in the shape of Germany.

A quieter night last night for our Internationals, but a big one for young striker Shamir Fenelon, making his International debut, as a late substitute for the Republic of Ireland U21s, in Waterford.

It was the turn of the first four of our club representatives on International duty, tonight, and all four earned caps.

At Hampden Park, an occasion not seen for many, many years, if at all, as no less than three Albion players graced the same International pitch. Gordon Greer and Aaron Hughes both lined up from the start, and both proved resolute, as the game looked to be heading

    Albion 1 - 1 Wolves, 14.03.2015

Much attention in the run up to this game had focused on the two sides' keepers - a chance to crystallise the ongoing debate over the pros and cons of the Albion's decision to part company with Tomasz Kuszczak and replace him with David Stockdale. Stockdale himself brushed aside the suggestion, stating that it was irrelevant who was in the other goal. Despite his protestations, it was inevitable that comparisons would be drawn, and fate was

In January 2010, Gus Poyet began the process of improving the club, by signing a Spanish right back nobody had ever heard of. Within weeks he became a fans' favourite, with his technical ability, swashbuckling play, massive will to win and huge CHARM.

He is constantly cited as the single most professional of the squad, and despite now being comfortably

A work in progress. That’s what we are. Not so much two steps forward, one step back, as a slow, stumbling creep towards safety (we hope), as plainly illustrated by last night’s trip to Reading. Against the Biscuitmen, the Albion’s defence twice crumbled like a Rich Tea Finger in a freshly made brew, despite scoring their first away goal in what seems like months.

You’d be amazed what comes up on Google when you search for “Soggy biscuit”

    Albion 2 – 0 Derby County

I wrote after the recent home defeat to Forest, about how “football is infuriating, deeply frustrating, and often unjust”. Fans of Derby County: welcome to our world.

Whilst it would be harsh on Albion’s tireless defence, and on the faultless David Stockdale, to dismiss this win as simply lucky, it would be nothing short of delusional, to not acknowledge that the visitors were the better side. By some distance.

The Rams were the best side in the

As my nom de plume might suggest, I'm based these days, some distance from Brighton. As I set off on another Tuesday pilgrimage, after pulling in another favour to leave work early, and feeding the car yet again, my wife asked me 'is it worth it? Wouldn't you like to just sit here in the warm and listen on the radio, for once?'

Is it worth it? On too many late night returns this season, despite my protestations to the contrary, my face would have
