It wouldn't be so bad if we changed the lyrics to make it more relevant to England.
It's just a random song otherwise.
We need to change the "sweet Caroline" to something like,
Sweet Harry Kane?
Three lions shine?
England is mine?
Lager and lime?
Lager and wine?
England's alive?
Southgates arrived?

Jerusalem a song about a place nowhere near England :moo:

Look at the lyrics which are ENTIRELY about England and Blake's desire to create a new Jerusalem here as opposed to what was going on at the time which was essentially the Industrial Revolution and the horrors (hence Satanic Mills) which it involved.

Wouldn't it be great to have a full house belting this out, probably would give us a 2 goal lead.

Will everybody have to do the stupid miming to the bow of burning gold bit that the cockheads at cricket matches do?

I should probably be clear at this point, for the avoidance of doubt:

I absolutely hate Jerusalem as a song.

Never seen the 'stupid miming' you mention as I have only ever sung it at Church/Remembrance Services.

Still if you hate a Hymn then that is down to You. Are there any Hymns You do like?

This.

There’s some real miserable old gits on NSC. Lordy, we’ve just got to the final for the first time in most people’s lives here.

I think I have been trying not to be overly Interested until now, not because I am miserable, but I think it is self preservation from all the times I have been hopeful and excited for it go wrong. Now we’re in the final I can’t believe it, the first time as you say in my life time, if we win I will be bloody ecstatic.

I loved seeing all the fans excited and singing last night

There's a few videos on YouTube, albeit I'm pretty sure I've seen people being significantly more vigorous than this when the team have been less crap:

I'm tempted to suggest I Vow to Thee My Country in the patriotic guff category, but actually I've no idea what the lyrics are and just like Holst's Jupiter.

Generally though, yes I'm perfectly happy to listen to a good hymn, I just don't like Jerusalem in particular.

And as said before, even though must of them are die-hard Barmy Army, 50% or less know the words to Jerusalem. It's never going to work in a football chant. I have no idea why a certain poster thinks it would!?

It's not technically a hymn anyway, even the CoE acknowledge that. It's a poem.

Entirely about England ??? apart from the title :)
He should have called it Nottingham or Birmingham……:moo:

It was an OK song, but I've grown to hate it - every karaoki, every open mic, and every not-very-good pub band, all of them never fail to trot it out, often badly, with everyone joining in with enthusiastic "Ba ba ba's". Yuk - I've had more than enough of it!

Since when has Jerusalem ever had anything to do with football? It's been a cricket song for years.

I was at the Germany game and Sweet Caroline was fantastic, even better than Three Lions.

It's amazing how people find something to moan about. England on the brink of a trophy for the first time in almost 60 years and somebody moans about the song choice in a stadium they're not even at. Mad.

Jerusalem belongs to the Women’s Institute and no one else! End of.
