Without wanting to put words into [MENTION=5208]drew[/MENTION]'s mouth, he's saying that if you act early and strictly, you prevent the virus getting out of hand and can come out of lockdown earlier (hence drew indicating that Starmer was calling for locking down earlier -- which is what happened), whereas if you react too late, it'll lead to a longer, stricter lockdown.

Hi, I did understand that. In an ideal world, early lockdowns, beat the virus, businesses reopen and and stay open ad infinitum.

In reality I haven’t seen that happen in heavily and densely populated nations in Europe. Many reasons - new variants, travel’s inevitable (all EU nations allowed it for long stints), people secretly breaking all the rules.

This time last year my hope was that Germany and the Czech Republic would be the model for the UK for future variants and pandemics, but not now.

Today’s posts in this thread have highlighted to me:

- People in the nation angry that Starmer believed in lockdowns, supported Boris.
- People in the nation seeing Starmer as a saintly hope who would’ve prevented lockdowns.

Imho all politicians in the pandemic have faced a no-win. A pincer attack from anti-lockdown/business and freedoms must come first types and we should should severely lockdown until CV19 is totally beaten.

It does not surprise me in the slightest, so many people are unaware of what is actually going on these days and seem to make it up to suit their politics or way of thinking or believe the tripe on facebook, twitter or the front page of The Daily Mail.
Just 4% of people were actually following the Cameron scandal at the last count and this story shows why Johnson will probably get away with the awful and total balls up he has made of this pandemic, sending innocent people to there deaths.
How on earth can anyone with an ounce of sense blame it on Starmer and anyone that thinks that going into a crowded pub will not spread the virus needs locking up.
The landlord was just yet another misinformed, angry, look at me cretin, unfortunately there are so many at the moment just like him that have not got a clue as to what the truth is even though the clear evidence is right in front of them.
Said it before, say it again, this country is stuffed with ignorant, uneducated, misinformed morons.

I'm saying the lockdowns may have been shorter if they had been introduced sooner, as per the science. There was talk of a two week circuit breaker back in Sept. It was over a month before we had lockdown in November and by then it had taken hold again. More severe but shorter lockdowns would have impeded the spread. Remember the lockdowns were to stop the NHS from being overwhelmed (it came pretty damn close in the last lockdown but hey, people had a better xmas!!!).

We could have had several circuit breaker lockdowns but then periods of businesses trading under covid guidelines eg. 2 week circuit breaker, 6 week trading, 2wk circuit breaker, 6 weeks trading etc etc. All the time keeping the borders closed for all travel and enforcing the rules during lockdown, not engaging and educating!!

The circuit breaker talk began well into October.

Drakeford of Wales was praised to the hilt on NSC and in The Guardian for imposing a three week circuit breaker in late Oct/early Nov. Sturgeon and Boris slammed for not doing so.

By December Wales was the CV19 death capital of Europe. Welsh health officials identified (through track n trace, despite the best efforts of pandemic deniers involved) that in Nov/Dec the public were simply ignoring all rules in private. Gatherings in homes.

When the dust has settled, nations will share the lessons learned, (before this discussion) it’s my belief that circuit breakers on their own will be kicked into the long grass. They’re not long enough and when over, they act as a Champagne cork for the masses who don’t give a damn to do anything they want.

The vast majority of people can’t stand wall to wall politics and bad news. That’s not a new phenomena.

These threads, and those combing papers for articles slamming Starmer, Boris, Cameron, are occupied by a tiny cohort of chattering classes.

My neighbours (intelligent folk btw), all but one colleague and my family would be bored to tears if I talked incessantly about Greensill, Starmer and so on. “Ah well, did you have good weekend?” would be the positive reply from positive folk.

I do find this 'show me the evidence or it can't possibly be true' line VERY tiring. Heard it from all sorts - pubs, theatres, nightclubs... The evidence is common sense... If you crowd a load of people into a poorly ventilate tight space, with their mates, for several hours whilst plying them with alcohol the virus is obviously going to spread. We know enough about the virus for this to be obvious, we don't need some stupid big expensive study (that're you not going accept paying for) to tell us this and the fact one doesn't exist isn't a sign of some big evil cover up or that the government is out to PUNISH your particular sector (I mean really? ) It's more just a good example of why those people are the ones in charge and you're an angry pub landlord...

In short, the landlord is a plank and those sympathising are no better.

I have a feeling that the ranting anti-lockdown landlord will lose credibility by the hour as this story develops. His business partner at the boozer has already been doing his best dissociate the pub with his views.

He was manhandled by the security chap which is a serious offence against a licensee on his premises as covered by the licensing act. He fully has the right to stop anyone from entering his premises and use force as deemed fit. He's a twit but if I was him I'd call the police as he has the evidence on camera he was assaulted.

I don't get the hate for this man. He is obviously stressed and angry. He was venting at the leader of the opposition because he finds him weak and insipid I would imagine. Boris would have got the same if not more if he dared to venture in to his pub.

I agree...I’m not sure I totally agree with his angle ..but I think you need to see past that ..it’s a guy who’s business one imagines has been decimated so there is bound to be a lot of emotion..stress..exasperation etc...then he seems to be almost palmed aside by KS ..then Starmer goes into his pub whilst one of the goons manhandles him ..as you say if BJ had been there he probably would have got the same verbals...the guys livelihood has been threatened
