This thread really wasn’t supposed to be “Another thread blaming everything and anything except the manager” or even another Potter in or out debate. It was just about the mental anguish we as Albion fans have to go through. Two of the examples I gave were down to VAR, one where we failed to score two penalties. Against Leicester having taken and surrendered the lead I thought we were surely going to get a point and the other was against a team where defeat is always painful. Apologies if this has become inflammatory, it honestly wasn’t supposed to be. UTA.

I am with you OP.. I would probably swap Palace and Man U for the sheer disbelief, as the Man Utd game was at a time in the season when the disbelief could be tempered by hope, and excitement that we just played man Utd off the park.. The Palace game had all the expectation built in, total dominance without the woodwork being hit and therefore was HORRIBLY frustrating to watch unfold with a tinge of predictability for good measure. The only one for frustration that I might have added, instead of Leicester on Saturday was the Villa home game.. almost 90 mins of dominance again, full strength Villa side . The Leicester game we weren't quite as good and Leicester I thought were pretty good themselves

No need for apologies obviously, there are a couple of individuals here (zefarelly, THPP and Justice to mention three) who are completely obsessed with Graham Potter and needs to drag him into every thread. Not your fault.

Agree about the mental anguish. When I saw Chris Wilder laughing about their chances in the pre-match interview before their Southampton game, I almost got jealous about how they had accepted their hopelessness.

Having watched the latest home defeat to Leicester, it struck me that this season above all, has been the season of the most agonising defeats ever! Yes, we’ve lost more games in the past, but never with such gut wrenching, nauseating agony as this year. Here are five games, which have left me thinking “how did that just happen?”.

No 5 - Albion 1 Southampton 2

One nil up after a Pascal Gross penalty, Southampton equalise on the stroke of half time. On 79 minutes, having been fouled outside the box, Walker-Peters throws himself into the penalty area. The referee correctly gives a free kick outside the box, but inexplicably VAR decides it’s a penalty.

No 4 - Albion 1 Leicester 2

Absolutely running the show, Brighton go into the break 1-0 up. A passive second half performance from the Albion, inevitably results in an equaliser for Leicester. A point would have been about right but Sanchez misses his punch from a corner and Amartey scores.

No 3 - West Brom 1 Albion 0

1-0 down, unmarked Bartley scores from a corner. Penalty to The Albion, Gross hits the crossbar. Dunk scores from a quickly taken free kick. Mason gives the goal but VAR want the free kick taken again. Dunk’s retaken free kick saved. Connolly misses from 6 yards. Penalty to the Albion, Welbeck hits the post.

No 2 - Albion 1 Palace 2

You know what happened,

No 1 - Albion 2 Man Utd 3

Albion take the lead through a Maupay penalty, Dunk OG levels the game. Rashford makes it 2-1 to UTD but March equalises in the 95th minute. Corner to UTD in the dying seconds, but referee Chris Kavanagh blows up for the end of the game, only for VAR to spot a handball. Penalty to UTD who score on 90 + 10 minutes.

I know most people will have the Palace game as number 1, but that UTD game still rankles, we hit the post five times and the ref blew the whistle for the end of the game before VAR decided to award them penalty. Never seen anything like it!

The Man Utd game there was so much added time at the end, that was never explained .The worst one for me was West Brom away .Why did Welbeck take the second penalty .Gross is the Penalty taker with a high percentage of conversions.What was the chances he would make sure the second time very high i reckon.There was more chance Welbeck would miss,how often does he take penalties ? Was it because Gross would be so mentally shot he should not take the second one ,or maybe the team thought if Gross missed again he would be the villain .It was in our power at that moment so if we go down by 1 point it will be crucial.

Our performances and goal difference suggest we might be considered unlucky if we are relegated. We've rarely been completely outplayed over a match and the agonizing defeats when we concede late in the game are not because we've buckled under pressure but due to a lack of concentration/individual error. Part of me thinks this is good as it shows we're not a bad side and should stay up but then, if we'd been really poor earlier in the season we might have been forced to make changes that would ultimately keep us up.

His CV is short, and you might not rate the Swedish leagues, but describing it as laughable is just wrong. His Swedish record covers taking a 4th Div side through multiple promotions, into the top flight, winning a cup, and getting to the knock out stages of the Europa league. That's not laughable.

I suppose you mean the majority of those that that cast a vote? Last time I looked, 244 had voted "In" - but in the hours after a match there may be around 2000+ people logged in, on and off, so that's what, 12%-ish of NSC? So 88% expressed a different view / expressed no view at all.

Of course, the majority of NSC may well be backing the manager, but frankly, like many others, I can never be bothered to vote on those "In / Out" polls as I don't see the point of them; so I don't think you can start using the results to draw any meaningful conclusions about what they tell us so far as a collective 'NSC' view is concerned.

I agree with all of that.

In fact, the only post-match poll worth running is the "One point gained / Two points dropped?" poll following a draw. These are actually run on a legally-binding contractual basis with the club and the results are fed into developing set piece routines for first team training and for medium term strategic planning within the Commercial Department.

I know, all this dominating teams, creating loads of goalscoring opportunities whilst conceding very few is never going to work.

Groß didn't want it. The penalty was awarded, and whilst VAR was checking it and Welbeck and others were talking about it, Groß was over by the benches taking to Potter and gang.

Totally agree with OP that in those games we've been dealt a rough deal. The man u game particularly stands out as it's a game we're not expecting to win,a free hit as they say. The west Brom was a farcical decision with dunks goal but we also missed 2 pens so that's down to us not bad luck. We have had a few 1 on 1s notably liverpool at home and a missed pen. We got a fortunate pen at the death to rescue a point. But for a glaring miss at end of Fulham game we would of lost although again we were better team throughout. All in all we've had some bad luck but we've also been architects of our own downfall.

Relegated by one point on the final day and the club launches legal action against Chris Kavanagh for ending the game versus Manchester United at home but/for illegal strike of the ball (penalty taken) afterwards.

A very long drawn-out saga in the summer to follow in the High Court..........

I just know that's the way it'll go.
