[Albion] Would you prefer to be in Southampton’s position?

a team that has comfortably avoided relegation vs a team that is always in a relegation battle.

Southampton have finished in the bottom five in 2 of the previous 3 seasons, and their awful recent form puts them in the mix now.

They have good players and should be 11th or 12th, which is where they finished last season.

My mood and the general feeling on this board would very different if we had 30 points thats for sure.

On the subject of saints despite their terrible form they are bound to pick up another 10 points I reckon, their poor form can't last much longer.

They may be in terrible form but they have points on the board.

True but they are haunted by that 9-0 defeat that must be in the back of their minds every time they play. They have shown no spirit to bounce back this time. Ings hardly had a kick last night and reminded me of Murray a couple of seasons ago when he had to keep coming deep into our half to get a touch.
They seem to have a weak squad severely weakened when a key player get injured. Their manager seems a bit weird and one or two of their players look on the verge of a red card every time they make a tackle

I dunno aren't Saints missing a lot of players. I think thier poor form started when all 4 full backs were injured. If we both stay up and keep managers I would still think they'll be above is next season

We have three key players injured, Lamptey, Webster and March.

Southampton have been put up for sale by their Chinese owner, who because of his need to save face in his home country isn't prepared to sell the club for a realistic reduced price in these Covid times.
Their main sponsorship with a Chinese company also failed to deliver the majority of the amount due.

Although I'm sure they won't be the only club with a big financial headache.

If we had taken 3/4 points from last two games then yes, we didn’t so no. Nothing is more valuable than points on the board.

They are very catchable still this season. However long term I believe they are obviously a much bigger club and seem to be well established in the prem. So with that in mind, I would love one day to be like saints but playing the Brighton way.

I disagree about the relative bigness of the two clubs. Apart from the fact that their dreary, identikit stadium has a slightly larger capacity than the Amex, there is very little difference. They have a history of developing players who are sold on for big money, but it's just that - history. Well-established? So were Stoke. So, in fact, were Southampton themselves until they were relegated in 2005.

It's looking likely that Ings will be off in the summer, so unless they can find a replacement then things might be tough next season too.
In answer to the OP, points on the board count for everything and they have to play all the sides below them. I think they'll stay up, and they'll be above us

Is it? Please god can we buy him instead of some 19 year old from the Latvian 3rd division.

Stains are quite clearly a massive club with a huge fanbase, drawing on the colossal megalopolis of Southampton, Eastleigh, Fareham, Totton and Furzley.

If, over the next 20 years, TB can somehow grow the Albion to end up say 75% of the size of Stains, that’s the best we can hope for.

Neither Saints or Brighton are "massive" clubs, but both have a sufficient following to hold their own in the Premiership.
As for drawing power, Brighton have a far bigger potential than Southampton for attracting crowds. With Portsmouth and Bournemouth either side of them, Southampton have to compete with them to attract fans.
Brighton on the other hand have nearly the whole of Sussex to draw from.If you just add up the largest towns populations within a reasonable radius of Brighton, then that makes a total of around 1 million people.
