11 miles this morning around Virginia Water and Windsor Great Park. Pleasantly relaxed and running with a friend at the speed of chat. Keeps me sane.

Mission accomplished for today. Walked half a mile, then slowly jogged 10 yds, walked 10 yds alternately from the bottom of Bedford Street to the Marina and back. No pain! I can't tell you how pleased I am. It seems I'm on the road to recovery. I'll do this for a couple of weeks every other day, building up the jogging.
Perhaps it was the maiden voyage of my new Mizuno Wave Rider 24's I had for my birthday what did it!!
Christ, I'm happy!!!

Opened the box with the Vaporfly Next 4% today after their 10 months solitary confinement and a bloody clothes moth flew out. The plastic has not been chewed thankfully.
Looking forward to giving it some welly tomorrow for a mile effort during lunch at the . Only a red, grunting, sweaty mess is guaranteed. 6:30 seems reachable in the head and would put me nicely at 90% of the time I’m aiming for in the summer.

The mantra will be “warm up properly, warm up properly, warm up.”

Put on my Albion drill top today for a 10-miler in the beautiful afternoon sun.

Like the Albion I crashed and burned. Midway through mile 9, whilst checking over my shoulder to see if it was safe to cross a road, I planted my foot on a patch of black sludge made up of decaying leaves and other wintry muck and went over. I cut up my left knee and both hands in the process, but just got up and carried on. Managed to make my tenth mile, which is all uphill, the best of my run at 6:38 before inspecting the self-inflicted damage.

Fortunately, more damage to my pride than anything else!

Tomorrow, I'm going to up my game as I strive for full fitness. This time, walk half a mile, jog very slowly for 20 yds, walk 20 yds, repeating the jogging and walking and do this for a mile. I can't wait. It's like I've never ran before!

Standing in the way of control
i am in need of new running shoes, I am wanting to buy the identical asics shoes online that i have at the moment
any advice as to where
and what i need

can the shoe be identified by this : ASICs 1011 A690 size 44,5 ?

Doesn't look like they have them in stock immediately but give the Jog Shop a look: https://www.jogshoponline.co.uk/running-shoes-for-men.html

They are magicians who would sort you out in ten minutes if you went in there. Might not be quite as accurate without them seeing your stride but could always bell them or email in the meantime. Also supporting local running royalty in the process :)

Didn’t wear the Vaporfly but ran a 6:14 PP Magic Mile today. 33 seconds better than last month. First half felt good, then a struggle to the 3/4 stage and nothing left for a pick up at the end. Hard racing solo and still unfit to go over a mile. Love the feeling you get afterwards. 30 seconds to find...

Ouch! Glad to hear you escaped the tumble with only cuts and bruises Bozza.

Reminds me of when I stacked it a couple of weeks into the first lockdown last year. On a roadside single lane path I saw an oncoming runner heading towards me who clearly had no intention of slowing down to navigate us passing social distanced, so I did the courteous thing and gave him a wide berth by heading onto the grass verge but I slipped on what must have been a slippery muddy patch and ended up doing a forward roll and sliding head first into the road.

I'm very very lucky there wasn't a car driving along at that moment. Thankfully I just had some road rash on the hands, arms and legs. The runner just carried on, while I was splayed out on the road :annoyed: I sometimes see him on my runs now.

Really getting back into my running now. I've had a child-lifting-imposed back injury that was causing me all sorts of upper leg pain whenever I pushed myself hard, but this seems to have finally sorted itself after several weeks of easier running and, probably more importantly, being more conscious of my child-lifting technique.

Looking forward to the park runs restarting almost as much as the pubs.

I went out without the dog this morning for a change and the quickest mile of the four I ran was about a minute slower than yours! Well done gaffer – I'm sure you'll find those 30 seconds. The Vaporflys are good for about 25 every mile, right? :lolol:

Increased my recovery programme today as described above. Extended the total distance from 1.75 to 2.5 miles. Leg feels a little sore but I don't think I've done it any harm hopefully. Cycling 10 miles tomorrow, then the following day, a repeat of today's 20 yds jog, 20 yds walk and repeat for the 2.5 miles distance.

Sounds hopeful and good self discipline.
If it’s the calf that’s sore, be very careful continuing.

Thanks for the advice. After not being able to run for nearly two months until now, as soon as I feel anything in my calf, I stop. That's what I did today. Just the slightest sensation after about 2 miles, so then just walked briskly back home. Cycling doesn't affect it at all, due to different muscles being used as someone on here has said earlier.

Good caution Jack. Sounds more and more like the soleus. Cycling is best for a while. Calf raises will also help to build up the muscles or using a stretchy band. Give rehab a google. It’s an annoying injury

That's a big improvement. I'll just check the wind speeds! Well done old(ish) boy. I'm sort of on the injury bench. Just the troublesome knee; if I 'manage' it, it's OK.
Did a 10k the other day and ducked below 49, but not showing anything like your form.

PS your AG for that one?

Sorry the knee is still playing up. I'm playing with fire running flat out but just surviving with plenty of rest days.
The AG was 74.66% which I'm very happy with. I need 25 seconds and 5:49 to reach 80%. Hopefully there'll be an official Arena session at Withdean in the summer where I can give it an official go.

Beat the Gasson by 5 seconds for the first time this month but I must admit he didn't know it was a race.

Now back to reality. I don't have the stamina to race a 5K and the British Master's virtual mile to do between yesterday and next Sunday will have yesterday's time to make sure I don't overdo it in a second attempt too soon (or will it?).

On NSC for over two decades...
I've been running every other day recently, and have been trying to mix things up to take my mind off the fact I'm not getting any faster or losing any weight.

So I did one of the built in watch work-outs the other day where I had to concentrate on getting my heart-rate into specific zones, and that was quite invigorating. Then today I headed out onto the Downs to get some hills in my legs... and nearly hurled at the summit of Halfpenny Lane.
