Mrs Jakarta, as a Cancer survivor, got her vaccine notification today. Unfortunately it means a trip to Midhurst but what the Hell, it's a nice drive out there.

I'm a few years younger than Her and haven't had the Big C so who knows when I will get mine. Don't care as long as She is OK.

Not just "hints in the data" anymore. Clear signs from Israel that vaccines are working.

Just got my appointment for Sunday morning in Portslade. :)

They're vaccinating the clinically extremely vulnerable Sunday through to Thursday so it looks like they'll hit the ambitious target.

Bloody brilliant.

Hopefully I don't get snowed in

Going to miss a bit of the test match though :tantrum:

Reckon you should be OK - most of the serious snow is supposed to be confined to Kent and East Anglia on Sunday and Monday.

Good luck; delighted for you

Data update :

19,114 positive cases - DOWN 26.5% rolling 7 days (over 50k fewer)
2,578 hospital admissions - DOWN 17.8% rolling 7 days (over 5k fewer)
Deaths DOWN 17.8% rolling 7 days - highest the % fall has been in second wave I believe
480k first jabs - 65k more than reported last Friday and total now almost 11 million

The media are finally starting to report the falls in data that we've spotted for a while now (or are now being allowed to) - https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-55951378

Five reasons to be (cautiously) hopeful (from the BBC) - clear the media narrative is shifting to the more positive at long last :

Even more good news: there is no "media narrative". Most journalists and editors in the same organisations have wildly varying approaches to interpreting the figures.

Disagree. The media (inc the BBC) have been relentlessly negative throughout. Great to see them finally turning the corner.

This thread is great for sharing the positive stories but it is understandable that the media's coverage of a global pandemic has been a bit gloomy, is it not?
