I appreciate your blind faith and optimism that Potter will turn it around, I don’t have to agree with you it doesn’t make you a better fan or whatever you think it does. It’s an opinion that is all.

Read the post!! Blimey. Nothing to do with what I think of Potter. I’ve given you an opinion on what the Chairman will do. How on earth does that make me think I’m a better fan? Bizarre thing to come back with.

Those stats make for very uncomfortable reading, especially goals conceded in our first PL season vs this.

It was fairly easy comparatively not to concede goals when we hardly ever crossed the halfway line. If we had the luxury now of a player like Murray on fire - who was converting our one chance per game - we’d be comfortably top half, probably top 6.

Seems nit-picky but possibly valid... what's been the average fixture difficulty rating or equivalent for our first 12 games in each season?

Not nit-picky - it's very relevant given the (prior at least) gulf between the top team and the rest. Calling Giraffe - do you have a comparison on where we were vs the 'staying up tracker' at the same stage each season ? Would be interesting to see how the lines compare week by week....................

If only it were that simple

I think CH played to his and our strengths, at the time, as opposed to Potter trying to play to some kind of ideoligy we're clearly not capable of achieving.

I do think we have the players good enough to be comfortably above relegation, with dry sheets, and playing some half decent football in the process, but we're not doing it at the moment.

What does it look like after 14 games? i.e. if we win the next two games, I suspect we look a whole lot better. I know, IF...

I'm pretty well on the way to concluding that GP isn't up to it. There's tactical flexibility and strategy, and then there's throwing stuff at the wall and seeing what sticks. Constant changing in personnel and positioning, failure to defend set pieces, a lack of character on and off the pitch and really poor in-game management from him and his players. Can't see a change coming as this is Ashworth's gamble and if GP goes Ashworth is in an embarrassing position. We'll probably end up with bloody Southgate next. Christ.

More like Aidy Bothroyd! You can see it coming!

Fifth in the XG table, based on how many points we would have accumulated if expected goals had been scored for and against. Confirms what we already knew - not taking our chances and failing to stop the opposition scoring from their's.

The one that jumps out is the last one, goals conceded. We've lost the ability to defend well. Not much idea when not in possession. Terrible at set pieces. Get that right, the rest would improve

As Devil's Advocate;

Many of our changes have been enforced. Lallana picking up a knock as has Lamptey, suspensions and other injuries. No one seems to mention we are in the middle of an epic pandemic as if it's just a normal run of fixtures and results compared to any other season. Look at Man City and Liverpool, previous 2 seasons barely dropped a point, this season, Villa put 7 passed the champions. It's crazy. There seems to be no acknowledgement at all how this is effecting teams. Sheffield United, roared on last season by a thunderous home support clearly suffering with no fan energy behind them.

We went 2 seasons wondering why CH didn't just change it away to like Leicester, 'just try something different' we shouted 'we don't care if we lose as long as we give it a go!' - that last statement for some was clearly a lie.

I'm going to keep banging on about it in terms of what Ralph Hasenhüttl did at Southampton. Came in, first season kept them up, showed signs of improvement. Next season here are Southampton's figures same stage 19/20:

P12 W2 D2 L8 GF11 GA29 GD-18 PTS 8 – pos.19th

They were all over the place. Chopping and changing, tactics in disarray, he was odds on for the sack. Lets remember they have a lot of players on higher wages bought in for higher fees than our squad. They stuck with him though of course, behind the scenes and behind the fans losing their shit, owners and those in charge could see what he was implementing behind the scenes.

We're 12 games in. We are struggling, but we are 10 points on the board, our GD is a lot better than every team below us. Think he deserves a bit more support and getting behind the team than he's getting at present. I'm pretty sure TB is keeping close attention what it going on at the club, and he deserves us to respect his judgement as well.

The contract thing is a bit of a red herring. You can guarantee there will be a settlement clause in there in case the contract is terminated early. Almost never do clubs fully pay up managers contracts in full if they are sacked.

Not strictly true?

Sorry I don’t agree. Do you remember Sammy H who without doubt had more fans wanting his head than Potter currently. Did T B do the the deed No !, In fact when Sammy resigned TB begged him to stay
So I am sure TB won’t give Potter the elbow after he has given him such a long contract, he and his advisers would have a lot of egg on face I’m afraid

I must admit it was a bit of a surprise when GP got the contract extension, didn't do a lot in the short time to warrant it, and still hasn't yet, though that may change.
We all hope.

All behind closed doors.

What does that prove that isn't true, sorry I don't follow? That the pandemic has had no impact whatsoever on results, is that what you've demonstrated? Or that Sheff Utd are not affected by no support? I honestly don't know. Neither of us can quantify what a lack of support does for teams. Some at home have supporters on their backs and may well feel a bit less pressure, maybe Villa as an example. Others like Sheff Utd seemed to be roared on by their support. Who knows. I was acknowledging that the pandemic must have some impact - perhaps for you it's no impact at all?

Once the team stop believing in GP’s tactics he has to go and it looks like that’s happening judging by players body language.

Comments like that are just absolutely nonsense and undermine your credibility. Only two games ago it was his change of formation and tactics that ran Liverpool ragged. The players executed them excellently and we could have been 2 up at half time. Absolutely zero sign that they weren’t bought in.
