It will be interesting to see if this gets shown in the US. When I first arrived in the States everybody said I had to watch Saturday Night Live, I did and thought it was shite and too tame compared to something like SI. Although it was probably past its heyday when it helped launch the careers of people like Steve Martin, Eddie Murphy and Dan Aykroyd. But recently it has had something of a comeback and seems sharper and takes a few more risks for a network show, and Alec Baldwin as Trump was pretty good. So would be interesting to see how puppets compared to actors.

Hard to stress enough what a big ability Spitting Image had in that pre-meme era to hasten the end of a politician's career.

'Wife of David Steel blames TV show Spitting Image for killing his career
Judy Steel says the show's caricature of the former Liberal leader as a tiny pipsqueak sitting in the pocket of David Owen "almost fatally wounded" him.'

If only Spitting Image had the power to do the same to BJ and Big Brain Dom. Tho to be fair they're perfectly capable of doing it all by themselves

The problem they have is that in reality, the likes of Trump and Johnson are so bizarre and stupid, they are frankly beyond satire.

The only way to make it is to go for the jugular but legally they wouldnt be able to these days. Not satirise the bizarre things they say but the actual ****ed up shit. Kids in cages and "grabbing them by the pussy" in Trumps own words. Make it a cross between satire and investigative journalism by exposing things they've really done that the general public aren't aware of.

Highly likely ITV will show it there in some form, probably on Britbox USA first I suspect.

Just watched it. Very good puppets, terrible script.

Exactly the same as the first original series, except the puppets were a bit rubbish then until they got into a roll.

As for political correctness, nah, it's as biting as last time. Lewis Hamilton giving a right going over and and Trumps extended anus is the one doing the tweets.

Quite like the Cummings alien who eats babies though.

Shame they aren't using the original theme music.

4/10.

Aye. Weaker than piss.

Hopefully improves, puppets second to none. The ideas are there (Priti Patel as a domintratrix trying to bring Michael Gove to "orgasm"), but the Elton John sketch with Kier Starmer just fell flat.

Quiet liked the nod to the past with the Tory Cabinet scenes and the Matt Hancock puppet (hiding behing a pot plant) definately has potential.

Sadly the script not good enough in the new series . The original was hilarious. World too pc nowadays .

Quite clearly passed you by. Although the script was crap, nothing PC about that first episode at all. Took the piss out of the hypocrisy of Lewis Hamilton promoting "causes" and was hardly sympathetic to Greta Thunberg.

Like all comedies of the past we view through rose coloured glasses. Spitting Image took a long time to get going and then fizzled out.

I find it quite interesting you enjoyed the original because at its best it attacked the right wing at the time, it's most vicious targets being Thatcher, Reagan and the regime in South Africa.

I'd envisage you back in the 80s frothing at the mouth.

One of the most abysmal things you’ll ever see, but the writers are terrible so no real surprise

When Spitting Image started it wasn't much better. The episode had canned laughter. As bad at was, one positive was the topicality as they included a presidential debate sketch. Just like the original show they are set up to produce something topical and biting, with the rest as filler.

Puppets 10/10

But it was a bit droll. I think as it gets more topical it should improve.

I loved the Klopp puppet. The Pence one is best for me though.

I signed up for the week trial on Britbox and went to cancel. It then offered me three months for a tenner. Took that on as there is some good stuff to work through.

So worth signing up to for a week and then three months. Just make sure you go to cancel first if you want it. One click saves you a few quid.

You can download it as well. I have the first couple of episodes but haven't got round to watching them yet. NSC seems divided on whether it's any good or complete rubbish............so no change there! :lolol:
